JJ and Emily's houseJJ's POV
It's been a little over a month since Emily and I talked about her getting a therapist, she's been seeing one for the past 3 weeks and she hates him. She doesn't feel comfortable being in a therapist's office so her sessions are over Skype. During the sessions, I stay downstairs but they always end with her shutting off her computer and slamming the office door.
Today she had another session and I'm prepared for the door slamming and grunting. Her therapist told her to sign on at 10 am, he didn't have set hours he just allowed her to call whenever but today he set a time. She doesn't know but her therapist told me to listen to today's conversation. So unfortunately for me, I have to invade her privacy and stand behind the door for her session. I know this is going to be a rough session but I want her to get better. I stand behind the door waiting for the session to start.
"Good morning Emily." He says when he logs in.
She grunts, "Good morning Dr.Miller."
"Did you do what I told you to do for your homework?" He asks.
"You mean the fifth-grade family tree project you wanted me to make, yeah I did that." By her tone of voice, I can tell she rolled her eyes.
"Show me."
I heard ruffling, I assume she's positioning it to show him. She talks about her mom and dad, her brother, and grandfather but that was it. She didn't have much to say.
"Where's your grandmother on your mother's side?" He asked.
"She died when my mom was in high school, I never met her and we don't speak about her." She answers, very annoyed.
"Grandmother and grandfather on your father's side?" He asks again, ignoring her annoyance.
"I don't know."
"Why is that?" He continues to question her.
"He never mentioned them so I didn't ask." She responds.
"Is that how things in your family work? If someone doesn't bring something up it's not talked about." His question was met with silence, we were only 20 minutes in and I know this is only going to get worse. "Is that why you never mentioned your brother to your team?" He asked.
I instantly knew he struck a nerve when I heard Emily huff, "I didn't tell my team about my brother because they didn't need to know, the same reason I didn't tell them anything about my family. To most people on the team I lived the perfect life as the ambassador's daughter." She says calmly.
"Why didn't they need to know?"
"From the moment I got on the team, I was doubted and undermined. To them, I was only on the team because my mother has money. Why would I give them another reason to think I'm incompetent?" She took her turn asking the questions now.
"Did they tell you they thought you were incompetent?" He asks, disregarding her question.
"They didn't need to. Aaron and Derek questioned every move I made, to them I was looking for some type of political power. Spencer and Gideon didn't even bother to look at me. JJ and Penelope went digging up on my files, whether they want to admit it or not, I know they did." When never told Emily but we did look at her files we couldn't find anything so much of her stuff was sealed or it wasn't there. There was nothing about her undercover operations and stuff, it just looked like she worked a desk job all her life. "When I read an Arabic letter they all looked at me as if I was a small child, they thought I was so incompetent that they couldn't believe I spoke multiple languages." She laughs.
