"How much do I owe you for all of the help?" I ask.

"You can't put a price on emotions." Addison says.

Put a price on emotion

"I gotta give you something — you canceled your date with Dixie tonight for me." I say.

"Stop look for stuff to buy. It's fine, go get your girl." Addison says.

I'm looking for something to buy

I smile and go to Charli's house.

It was our house, but we were mad and we had to make a compromise. Either she left and stayed in a hotel room with the kids or I left and stayed in a hotel. I left.

A lot of people think we're divorced or that Charli should've divorced my ungrateful ass a long time ago. They aren't wrong, but Charli thinks I can change and I am changing. I'm learning new things every day.

I put the key in the lock, but it doesn't open. I sigh and knock.

"Are you ready to talk yet?" I ask.

"Y-Yeah." Charli says letting me in.

I smile and Charli closes the door.

"Can you hold him for a minute?" Charli asks.

"Yeah." I say.

She hands Lucas to me and walks up the stairs.

"Where were you?" Lucas asks messing up a few of his words.

"I was trying to make mommy happy." I say.

Lucas giggles and I kiss his forehead.

"Lights out." Charli says as I rock Lucas.

Charli closes the door and I go up the stairs. She takes him from me and takes him to his room.

We go downstairs and I sit at the kitchen island.

"Why'd you change the locks?" I ask.

"You didn't call or text. I assumed you were gone for good. The kids... have missed you a lot... I have too." She says.

"I miss you too. Can we work this out?" I ask.
