(season two)

the castle stayed cold and quiet.

it'd been weeks since her death.

but no one ever walked around, engaged with each other anymore,

except for charlotte and elizabeth. they'd grown close since it happened. elizabeth sat on her floor, holding her mother's crown, grieving. she didn't think she'd ever be able to truly let go. there was a knock at the door.

"Lizzie you in there?" called charlotte on the other side. elizabeth tucked the crown away before answering.
"Yes come on in, love" she shouted. charlotte came and sat by her.
"I just wanted to see how you were doing, that's all" she spoke quietly, with a sad undertone.
"I'm alright, i mean, i'm alright for how things are now. What about you, how are you?" elizabeth changed the subject from her. she was a caregiver, she didn't ever want to worry anyone.
"I'm fine, i just hated being in my room. it gets quite lonely in there" charlotte answered.
"I understand" elizabeth sighed and took a long paused before saying,
"Do you ever wish you could get away from all of this?" she asked her sister. charlotte thought for a moment, putting her head on her sisters shoulder before responding.
"Sometimes, though it does seem impossible for me. I do wish to see Italy at least once" she answered. the answer struck a chord in elizabeth's heart. her mother...
"uh- Italy would be a wonderful vacation! it was...mother's dream to live there for the longest time! y'know...before she married into royalty and all" elizabeth sighed. charlotte sat up slightly.
"That's why i want to go!! Mother talked about it so much we have to go one day, for her" she smiled. elizabeth squeezed her sister's hand and smiled back.
"for her"

ember brown, princess of the Northwest kingdom, a neighboring kingdom to the darling's Acardia. she is not your average princess. she has no interest in being queen or finding a suitor, despite her parents conflicting intentions. ember rushes into her room, changing out of her sports clothes into a long, flowy dress, tightening up her corset. she fixes her hair and puts her crown on. she scans herself in the mirror making sure no one could tell she was outside messing around. her mother wanted her to be proper, this was not exactly ember's cup of tea. ember slides down the railing of the large stair case running into the dinning room, her eyes widening a bit when she sees her mother and father, the king and queen of the Northwest kingdom. her mother and father stare daggers at her, ember clears her throat
"Mother, father, your majesty's" she curtsied
"I apologize for being late" ember pulls out her chair and sits between her mom and dad. they eat their evening meal in silence before her father breaks it suddenly.
"It's a shame Queen Victoria passed" he said. ember's heart dropped. Victoria's eldest daughter elizabeth was a childhood friend of hers. she'd been planning to write to her to reunite for a while now, she knew that now more than ever, she must. after dinner she went upstairs and wrote her letter to elizabeth, which read:

My Dearest Elizabeth,

My father has just delivered the news to me about your mother, I am terribly sorry and sending my love to you. As you know I am always here for you old friend, if you need anything please contact me.

sending my love,
                                                       Ember Brown.

                                            ~~

elizabeth stood, looking at the moon outside her window, when she saw the mail being delivered. she knew no one else around her was going to retrieve it so she did. when she did she saw a letter addressed to her from...ember brown?
THE EMBER BROWN??
she ripped it open and read it. her heart skipped a beat. she hadn't smiled like this in weeks. her childhood friend, (slash childhood crush but we don't talk about that), sent her a letter of condolence after all this time. she ran upstairs to write her back as soon as possible. the letter she wrote to ember read:

my dearest ember,

i very much appreciate you writing and sending your condolences during this time. it's been years since i've heard from you and i'd love to see you again. would you like to come to our gardens for lunch tomorrow? we can catch up and it shall be wonderful!

sending my love,
                                                        elizabeth darling

she ran downstairs and rushed her letter to the guard, faye.
"Faye, can you get this delivered as soon as possible?" she asked, out of breathed.
"Of course your majesty" faye answered before heading out to work.

all elizabeth had to do now, was await her reply...
