London. Kings Cross station. 10:30 am. In between 9 and 10 platforms. Muggles running around, always in a hurry and constantly annoyed with something. Two eleven-year-old girls. Each goes hand in hand with a parent.
One is of medium height, with shoulder-length curls in dark chocolate shade and almost black shiny eyes. The corners of her plump lips lifted upward in a joyous smile, revealing a deep dimple on her left cheek. Children's legs barely kept up with a tall, stately man in a beige cardigan, most likely a father, with terrible scars on his face, like from horror films. With kind eyes and a warm smile he distracted the contemplating passers-by from his flaw. The man looked insanely proud of his child but if you looked closely you could see anxiety hidden behind a veil of joy and happiness. The parent's right hand gently clasped the little girl's hand and the left pushed a cart with a suitcase, a strange-looking cauldron and a cage with a black fluffy cat, which was dozing lazily, sometimes opening one blue eye as if checking whether they were finally going to get it out of captivity.
The second one is a short blonde with short hair and gray-green eyes. A tall slender woman with brown curly hair and green eyes was busy fussing over the girl, nervously biting her lips. In an eccentric newfangled bright red coat and a large pointed hat she looked like a wicked cartoon aunt but definitely not a caring mommy. The little one just grinned at her mother's lamentation and secretly rolled her eyes. Probably wanted to get rid of the care of a noisy annoying parent as soon as possible. The filling of the cart which they were pushing together did not differ from the previous couple. But the cage was empty and a huge owl was sitting in the girl's arms. She met it's gaze and winked when it sadly lowered it's head as if encouraging a bird.
Two unfamiliar and completely different girls just hurried to the train to school and did not even suspect how much their fates were intertwined...
