- i n t h e l a b -Leo and I were cornered on a desk with three teenage looking kids sending us threatening glares. The awkward moment of silence was broken when Leo said,
"Okay, I don't play this card too often, but..." He paused, "MOM!!" he yelled as loud as he possibly could.
"Thanks Leo," I said to him calmly, "I THINK I JUST BUSTED AN EARDRUM!" I screamed back in his ears. He flinched as he heard my voice booming. Suddenly, Donald and Tasha entered the room, and Leo scurried back to his mother. While the girl and the tall boy watched him, the small boy still sent glares at me.
"What are you looking at?" I asked him looking around, like I did to Leo earlier. His face softened up a little, as he put his hands on either side of the desk I was leaning on, and he brought his face close to mine. He smiled a small smirk, as he whispered, "Nothing," in my ear. His warm breath sent chills down my spine, but he hurriedly backed away from me when Tasha asked , "What is this place?" She asked, looking around, "Who are they?" She questioned, pointing to the three, who were in a line. Donald looked back at the three, then to Tasha, and responded unconfidently, "They, uh, are..." He pointed to them, and looked back at the them, and continued, "Uh, a boy band I've been working with,"
Really? A boy band is your excuse? Hello?! There's a girl right there! Unless she's like some robot with a really realistic costume, but, PSH, that's ridonkulous, right?
"Um, and the twist is, one of them is a girl!"
And that completes that obvious lie.
The girl smiled a wide smile, as Donald let out a heavy sigh.
"Alright," he started to confess, "They're part of a secret project I've been developing," he paused, smiled wide like a fangirl, and finished, "Genetically engineered superhuman siblings!"
Oh gosh.
"Tasha, Leo, and Jaz, meet Adam," he gestured to the large one, "Bree," he pointed to the girl, "and Chase" he showed the small boy, "The greatest combination of biology and technology ever developed," he said motioning his hands to fit together. This guy is pretty much a psychopath, no doubt about it.
"I don't wanna brag, but I am incredibly smart!"
Big ego? Check.
Tasha turned dumbfoundedly to me and Leo, and pointed to the three. As I started to open my mouth, Leo said, "Don't look at us. We told you to stay away from internet dating," he said defensively. I quickly backed him up, "With all due respect, Tasha, he took the words right out of my mouth," I confessed as she sent us a playful, but not playful glare. She turned back to Donald, and the three, and concluded,
"So... They're robots," All three gasped, as one by one they say,
"Whoa!" Chase started.
"Hey!" Adam exclaimed.
"Oh, no, she didn't!" Bree finished, pointing aggresively at Tasha.
Donald then quickly explained to us how they're human, and how he's given each of them a unique set of bionic abilities controlled by a microchip implant in their necks.
That seems a lot more complicated than it sounds, that's for sure.
He started to explain what all their "Bionic Abilities" were, whatever those are.
"See, Adam is all brute strength, and Bree has speed and agility, and Chase has super-senses and a superior intelligence," he said motioning to each one of them as he described them. They all gave us a playful smile, as they were being bragged about. Tasha then laughed nervously, walked over to Donald, waved to the three bionics nervously, and exclaimed in his ear,
