We were all in the lab surrounding the cyberdesk about to head to school after Mr. Davenport gave them a pep talk. Luckily, when I went home last night, my dad only punched me a couple times before sending me off to bed. I never had dinner, so I was starving when I came to the Davenport mansion.
"Okay, guys," Mr. Davenport turned to look at us. We all had smiles on our faces knowing that it was the Rats' first day of school. "You have been trained for all kinds of missions. But you are about to enter a soul-bruising, confidence-crushing, apocalyptical environment," he craned his neck before continuing. "High school." I rolled my eyes at his over-exaggerated statement. Sure high school sucked, but it wasn't as bad as he had explained it. I looked over to the Rats to see Chase with a what-the-heck look, Adam looking confused--as always--and Bree, her eyes rolled with mine. "Adam, Bree, your glitch test results are fairly stable."
"Yes! I'm going to school!" Bree squealed.
"And you're excited about that?" I asked her with an eyebrow raised. She glared at me with a let-me-have-my-fun face.
"I'm fairly stable!" Adam whooped.
"Mm..." I wandered off, "You're barely reaching the line, Adam," I muttered and heard a low chuckle from Chase. I smiled at him.
"But, Chase, I am still concerned about your Commando App." Leo and I both looked at Mr. Davenport confused.
"Commando App? Put on some underpants. We're going to school." I smacked Leo on the back of his head.
"I don't think that's what it is, stupid," I deadpanned before turning to Chase with a concerned look on his face.
"No, see," Mr. Davenport started off with wide eyes. I think he was imagining what Leo had said. I mentally cringed before he continued, "in the face of an imminent threat," he walked over to Chase, "Chase's Commando App kicks in and he becomes a fearless brute I like to call Spike," I laughed at Chase's expression. You could tell he wanted Mr. Davenport to shut up. Leo smiled. "It's kinda like a fight-or-flight thing, except I took out the flight part," he threw one of his hands back behind his head, "'cause, useless. And I replaced it with a testosterone level of like a tasmanian devil-wolverine-shark-lion hybrid that's mad." I just stared at Chase and Mr. Davenport while Leo was nodding his head and smiling like a kid who got world peace for a christmas gift.
"Don't worry, Mr. Davenport. I promise that Spike won't rear his ugly head," Chase reassured Mr. Davenport, but I knew something happened that made Mr. Davenport unsure.
"Oh, yeah?" he questioned, "You mean like last Christmas when I made the mistake of giving Adam boxing gloves?" Mr. Davenport walked over to Adam, quickly explaining what happened last Christmas.
"Ugh, I'm still coughing up tinsel." I cringed at Adam's comment.
"You know, letting Chase go to school, isn't such a good idea. I can't risk Spike coming out." Mr. Davenport shook his head walking off, but I stopped him.
"But Mr. Davenport, you know how Chase is! He needs to learn how to socialize and talk to girls..." Mr. Davenport had an eyebrow raised while Chase crossed his arms over his chest, "Uh... I mean he needs an education and to learn... stuff?" I nervously laughed at the end while Chase was frowning at me.
"Oh, come on, Big D," Leo and I followed Mr. Davenport to where his desktop was sitting on a desk. "Chase has to come," The rats stood behind me. Chase and I were dangerously close. "With these guys, Jaz and I will finally get a prime spot in the cafeteria," Leo said. "That's right, y'all," Leo nodded his head before doing something that would never come out of my brain even if I had gotten amnesia. "Put on your coats 'cause I'm about to ride your tail!" Leo started galloping as if he was on a horse and held imaginary reigns.
