Natsu's POV
"You were hit by that dark wave of energy by that guy and you collapsed. I thought you were going to die," I said, mad at first then concerned later.
I continued, "And, Wendy here, came when she felt that massive wave of magic and healed you—"
"Why?" She asked, defensively.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"Why can't you leave me alone? Why couldn't you just let me die?" She snapped, standing up. She dusted her outfit.
"Do you want to die so much?" I snapped back at her. She glared at me, but I glared back.
"Yeah, I do. Does it matter?" She asked.
"Yeah, it does. Y/n, you're my bestfr—"
"I was your best friend. Now we're just strangers stuck in the same guild," She said. I looked at her in disbelief.
"Are you serious? I don't care what you think. You're still my best friend, and you will always be my best friend. And, I would never let you die. No matter how much you beg. Cause' that's what friends do. Friends never let go. They stick no matter what. I'm sorry it took me so long to realize this, but now that I have, I'm never letting go of you, Y/n,"
"Why? Why do you have to be so persistent? Are you for real? Friendships don't work one-sided. That ship has sailed, Natsu. Wake up!"
"DON'T LIE! I know you still care. So, just say the truth. Stop pretending! I saw you apologize to Joy when she was unconscious. And that gave me hope that you were still in there somewhere, so just...please...come back,"
She looked down at the ground. I couldn't see her face. Her bangs were swaying on her forehead, letting a shadow looming in her face. Her face was framed in shadow. I could only see her gritted teeth, but then it transformed into a smirk as she turned to me.
"Then you're living in a dream, Dragneel, I am gone, and I'm never coming back. After these trials are done, I'll leave the guild, and there won't be anything holding me back. Not you, not Mini, not even Master," She said with a sly smile.
I gritted my teeth as veins popped from my forehead. "Why ARE YOU DOING THIS? Is this fun for you? Torturing me? Huh? Or is it cause you thought Lisanna was dead—"
"What do you mean I thought she was dead? I saw her. She's gone,"
"No, she was just lost. She's back, Y/n, so just stop it. If all of this is because Lisanna died, then she is back. You don't need to punish yourself any longer—"
"She's back? You think that's gonna make me feel better. Not everyone is lucky as her,"
"What?"
"Look, Natsu, I'm glad she's back, but that's not why this has happened. So, it's better if you just leave it and stop overthinking everything. Things are never going to back to the way they were, okay? It would be great if you actually understand that," she said, calmly before she turned to walk away.
I looked at the ground. My bangs covered my face.
"I heard you. Calling her name. Something happened with your mom, right?" I said, looking up to her. Her back was facing me. She had stopped on her tracks. I could hear her sobbing softly.
"Didn't I just tell you not to read into things? Why are you doing this to me, huh? Did I do something to you?" She shouted. I opened my mouth to speak.
"Don't give me that I'm-your-best-friend bullshit. It's been years since we last spoke. Just stop, okay? You're the only one that's gonna suffer from this. Cause we both know nothing is going back to normal. I hate the way you look at me as if I...I'm doing this for some wrong reason. I'm doing this cause I wanted to. Just accept it. It will be better for both of us. I am happy the way I am, right now? It's the only way I want this to be. I don't you or anyone else in my life anymore. The time that we spent, I'll cherish it forever, but that's all. Just face the truth, Natsu, and move on," she said.
