I sat in my room playing Gala Omega, it was Hajime's favorite game. I looked up at the clock, it was 3:42 AM, luckily I didn't have school for the next two weeks, so I decided to call it a night.
I woke up around eleven AM and walked downstairs.
"Good morning, Chiaki!" My dad said.
"Hey dad." I replied with a yawn. I sat down as my mom handed me a plate with pancakes and kissed my head. "Thanks mom."
"You're welcome, darling." She replied. After I had finished breakfast I went back up to my room, took a shower and got dressed, well I don't think it's really getting dressed. I had on a pair of shorts and an oversized hoodie on. By now, it was half past noon, so I got out my controller and started playing Gala Omega again. I had almost beaten my highscore when the doorbell rang.
"Chiaki, come down!" I died, well in the game.
"Coming!" I laid down my controller, wondering why she called me. I found out soon enough, as I turned on the banister I saw that none other than Hajime Hinata was standing at my front door.
"Hey, Chiaki..." He said nervously. He was wearing a nice suit and held a bag. I was wearing sweats.
"Oh my, Chiaki." My mother said. "Honey, did you forget?" I had. I had completely forgotten that I had invited Hajime over. I ran upstairs, humiliated. I felt really bad for forgetting. I collapsed on my bed and wanted to cry. I could hear light conversation going on downstairs and after a while, I heard someone walking up the stairs. Then, there was a knock on my door.
"Go away." I said, thinking it was my mom or dad.
"Oh, okay, I'm sorry..." Came Hajime's voice. I sat up.
"Wait!" I called, regretting what I had previously said. There was no reply. I got out of my bed and walked to my bedroom door. I opened it slowly, my head down. "I'm sorry..."
"Hey, no, it's fine!" He rubbed the back of his neck nervously.
"Um, I'm not really dressed, do you mind...?" I asked him.
"Of course, go ahead." I closed the door and went to get dressed. I pulled on a pair of pink trackpants and a black long sleeve top. I opened my door again. He had been leaning against my door and fell down.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry." I quickly leaned down to help him.
"No worries." He accepted my help and grabbed my hand, I helped him up. He was standing in front of me, I was still holding his hand.
"Hey, kiddos!" My mom was walking up the stairs. "Oh, I'll come back..." She started walking back down.
"It's nothing, Mrs. Nanami." He quickly turned to look at my mom and slowly let go out of my hand
"Okay..." She seemed like she didn't believe us. "Anyway, dinner's ready." She finished walking back downstairs. Once she was out of earshot, I started walking out of my room, but Hajime turned back towards me. He bumped right into me.
"Oh, geez, I'm really sorry, Chiaki." He said. I laughed it off.
"Seems like we're both getting our share of mishaps tonight." He chuckled and we walked downstairs.
After we had finished supper, we went back upstairs and started playing Gala Omega, but before long there was another knock at the door.
"Who is it this time?" I wondered as we set down our controllers.
"You don't remember?" Hajime asked me.
"No...?" I once again had forgotten about plans. "What's wrong with me today?"
"It's fine, Chiaki. Everyone forgets." He tried reassuring me.
"So... What did we have planned?" I asked him, not making eye contact.
"We're going skating... With your class." He reminded her.
"Oh, right!" I had completely forgotten about the plans that Ms. Yukizome had arranged. "Wait, how come you're going?" He chuckled nervously.
"She asked me to." He glanced around nervously, avoiding my gaze.
"Oh, cool..." I said.
"Chiaki! Your friends are here!" My mother called.
"Let's go!" Hajime grabbed my hand and his bag and raced downstairs. I'd never seen him so energetic, he was usually very laid back. Ryota Mitarai and Mikan Tsumiki were standing at the front door.
"Ryota, Mikan, hi!" I greeted them.
"H-hi, Chiaki, hi Ha-Hajime." Mikan replied.
"Good evening!" Ryota said. "Are you two ready?"
"Yeah, um, Mom?" But my mom was one step ahead of me. She handed me my skates. "Thanks."
"Have fun!" She waved the four of us out. It was snowing lightly and wasn't cold, which was good. We walked down the street and saw that there was a bus.
"What's that for?" I asked.
"That's how we're getting to the rink." Ryota explained.
"Hey there, Chiaki! Hi Hajime!" I heard Ibuki's voice.
"Hi, Nanami! Hello, Hinata!" Came Ms. Yukizome's voice from the driver's seat. The doors opened and we walked in. All of the seats we labeled, but Hajime didn't have one. "Oh, silly, me! I completely forgot that you had asked to join us, Hinata. Here! You can sit up with me! There should be an empty seat back there, Nanami." Ms. Yukizome gestured to the seat next to her. Hajime gave me a nervous smile as he glanced back before sitting down. I walked down the isle and found the empty seat next to-
"Hello, Chiaki." Nagito. I reluctantly sat down next to him. Just my luck, or rather his. Luckily, Sonia was on the other side of the isle, sitting with Gundham. Behind her was Kazuichi and Ibuki, behind me was Mikan and Ryota. Ahead of me was Peko and Fuyuhiko and aside from them sat Mahiru and Hiyoko. The drive was only ten minutes, but it was enough time for me to want to punch Nagito. I had to tell him to shut up quite a few times. I noticed that Teruteru was sitting in the singular seat halfway through the drive, I would have rather sat next to him.
We finally arrived at the rink, there was very few people there other than them. They all hopped off the bus and made their way to the ice. Hajime had waited for me to get off the bus, he had his hands stuffed in his jacket pockets and was shifting uneasily.
"Thanks for waiting for me." I said.
"No problem." His voice was quiet and uneasy.
"Are you okay?" I asked, trying to get a good look at his face.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I didn't believe him. "Whatever, let's go skate." He put on a fake smile and looked at me for a split second before taking off. Sonia ran up behind me and grabbed my arm and pulled me towards the ice.
"C'mon!" I couldn't hold back my laugh at her excitement. But I couldn't be excited with her when I knew something was wrong with Hajime...
