Sorry for the cliffhanger, I love them! Hope you are enjoying the story! It starts off slowly, but it gets better. Also, has a bit of headcanon in there about what happened after the killing game.
"Did- did you guys hear that?" Maki glanced around.
"Hear what?" Himiko asked.
"That voice." That was the second time she'd heard it. "Nevemind."
"Maki... Have you slept recently?" Shuichi asked.
"Define recently?" Maki said, trying to avoid the question.
"In the past week." He confirmed.
"Um, no..." She confessed.
"Maki! That isn't healthy! Or safe for that matter!" Shuichi screamed.
"Geez, keep your voice down." She whispered screamed.
"Want me to put a sleeping curse on you?" Himiko wiggled her fingers at Maki.
"N- no." Maki said through a smile. Himiko could be so childish at times, even though she was seventeen.
"Aw, okay." She put her hands back in her pockets.
"Anyway, thank you both so much for remembering. It means a lot to me." Maki reached out to hug them again. Shuichi met her halfway and Himiko joined in on the hug. Shuichi handed Maki the box and she went back inside. The magician and detective walked back to their homes.
She sat down at her kitchen table. The box laid in front of her.
"I wonder what he got me?" She flipped open the lid of the box and saw... "Oh gods." She fell backwards as she realized what it was. "This is... This is..." She pulled out a cylinder object and held it close. She realized that there was a letter. She laid the present on her table and picked it up.
Dear Maki Roll,
We get that you don't like presents or celebrations for that matter, but you only turn eighteen once! Anyway, we couldn't think of anything personal to get you, so we got you something that would remind you of him. Enjoy your telescope! And Happy Birthday!
Love, Shuichi and HimikoShe noticed that a few tears had fallen on the letter, but she didn't care, she picked the telescope back up and held it tightly along with the letter. After a few seconds, she wiped her tears and placed the letter and present back in the box. She walked to her bedroom and flopped down on the bed, she quickly fell asleep. After a few hours, her alarm went off. She ignored for a bit before reluctantly turning it off.
"Well, time for work." She said to herself. She got a shower and dressed. She had on a red turtleneck, black trackpants, gray sneakers and her white trench coat. As she was leaving her apartment, she grabbed her phone, keys and handgun. The clock read, 11:59. She still had thirty one minutes before her shift began, but it was fine. She locked her door and made her way to the parking, she looked at the spot where she was expected to be that night. She got in hercar and made her way to the station.
Maki doesn't work as an assassing anymore, rather she's a police officer now. In fact, Shuichi works in the same division as her. Now, you may be wondering what's a seventeen and eighteen year old doing working at a police station. Well, they had been through so much in the killing game that they were granted early graduation. She walked into the building, took the elevator to the sixth floor and arrived ready for her shift four minutes early.
"Good morning, Nakamura." She greeted her partner. Mosu Nakamura was a twenty four year old man, with a height of six foot two. He was a larger build and had a shaved head. He may look intimidating, but he's actually very kind, except when he's working. He loves his job and hopes to be a captain one day.
"Hry, Harukawa! Saihara told me it was your birthday! Happs!" He gave her a pat on the back and then let her be. She couldn't help but chuckle to herself. She made her way over to her desk, it wasn't anything special, just a computer, two monitors, some paper, etc. She said down and got out her latest assignment. After participating in a killing game, she found it easier to work out who the culprit is.
"Maki!" She heard someone say. She turned around and saw no one.
"Chill out, Harukawa." She whispered to herself. She turned back around and saw a cake on her desk. "Wha- what?" She noticed that on the top it read, "HAVE A GREAT DAY MAKI ROLL" She guessed it was from Shuichi, but his shift didn't start until five.
"Um..." She wanted to ask, but decided it would be best not to. It was a police station after all. After a few hours, she heard her captain call out.
"Harukawa! Robbery!" She stood up quickly and grabbed her things.
"On it! Send me!" She made her way out of the station and into her car. She turned on her siren and made her way to the old jewelry store that was robbed. She got out and someone, presumably the owner gestured that the robber ran downtown. She started running in that direction. After a few minutes, she arrived at an old warehouse. She entered and made her way up a few flights of stairs, she finally reached the top. It was dark out now and she could barely see anything.
"Show yourself!" She commanded.
"I don't think so..." The voice that replied was oddly familiar. She chose to ignore it. "Well, not yet at least."
"Come out of your hiding place, you are under arrest." She ordered.
"Okay, then." She heard shuffling a few metres away.
"Stake your name and disclose your intentions for burglary." She commanded.
"I stole for the stake of stealing." He said, she could hear him walking closer.
"And your name?" She asked again.
"Kaito." She staggered back. No, she shook that thought from her mind, it was pretty common and he was dead.
"Kaito Mo-" She stopped herself. "You're under arrest." She grabbed her handcuffs. "Show yourself." The burglar with the same name as her deceased crush finally stepped into the light and-
