The rumble of multiple Harley Davidson motorcycles is not an easy thing to miss – that is, until they stop rumbling. "Do you hear that?" Jack asked. "Silence."
"Oh, that's good, right?" Dallas said. "That means they aren't coming, right?"
"Wrong," Scott said, "I hear them shuffling around in the dust. You hear them too, right, Jack?"
"Yep, I do. I'm counting about ten of them, give or take. They're a couple hundred feet out."
"How do you people do that?" Dallas asked.
"They're vampires," Dawn answered.
"Oh yeah, vampires. How silly of me."
"You don't really believe in vampires, do you, Pringle?" Old Man Baloney said.
"Oh, what, and you do?"
"I'll just say that I've been around a few years. Been around this world a time or two. I've seen all sorts of strange things."
"Including vampires?"
"Actually, no. Never seen one of them. But I did see this lady one time in New York City. She could put her legs behind her head. Now that was some lady!"
"Nobody cares about that."
A single rock hit the front door of the trailer. "What the hell?" The old man asked. "They better not be throwing rocks at my trailer!"
"Relax," Jack said, "it's just to get our attention."
"Oh, believe me," Dallas said, "my attention has been gotten!"
More rocks began pelting the trailer. One even crashed through a nearby window. "Okay!" Dawn yelled, "we got the point!"
The rocks then stopped coming. "You in the trailer!" A voice called out from the darkness, "why don't ya'll come on out and join us?"
"They can't enter this trailer unless invited by owner," Scott said to Dallas and the old man.
"Well, I ain't inviting them!" The old man said.
"Hey!" Jack said to the voice in the darkness, "I've got a better offer! Why don't ya'll kiss my ass?"
Then there was a moment of silence. The silence was brief, soon to be followed up by a couple heavy impacts on the roof of the trailer. The impacts shook the trailer. "Something tells me those weren't rocks," Dallas said.
"They're on the roof," Dawn said. "What are they doing up there?"
A couple more impacts hit the sides of the trailer. "Are they throwing themselves at the trailer?" Scott asked.
Dawn moved near a window, hoping to better secure it. As she did so, a large rock smashed through that window. Right outside it was a snarling vampire biker. He was holding himself against the broken window. Dawn reached out, grabbed the vampire by the lapels of his leather jacket, then drove a stake into its heart. The vampire then perished.
"Score one for the good guys," Dawn said.
Strange metallic scraping sounds were then heard from inside the trailer. "What the hell is that?" Dallas asked.
"Sounds like they're trying to rip the trailer apart," Dawn replied.
"If they can't come in," Scott said, "they're going to improvise. Jack, we've got to take the fight to them."
