You walk through the more than familiar crowded halls of your high school. Being a senior is supposed to make you feel more important and somehow better, but it actually just makes you feel old. "Popular" isn't exactly the word anyone would use to describe you, but curiously enough everyone knows who you are; let's just say you are handsome enough to call the attention of some people. Well, also after years of seeing the same people everyday, it is hard not to recognize everybody. Although, there are some people a lot more recognizable than others; of course, these people are the populars.
In this high school, they are divided in two groups: the jocks and the dancers; the eternal rivalry. The jocks think they are a very big deal because they have the cheerleaders and all of the sports stuff, while the dancers think they're a big deal because everyone just falls head over heels for them. The rivalry is ridiculous, according to your opinion, but it's there and people seem to love it for some reason. Throughout the years, the competition has changed a lot and saying that it has changed for the better is a complete lie.
They first started competing in who would win more trophies and medals and stuff like that. At some point, that was not enough, so they added a popularity competition; who has more followers, who has more guests at their parties, etc. When that wasn't enough, they added money to the business; who would bring more expensive clothes or cars to school. It's just ridiculous the amount of money these people make their parents spend on them.
Fortunately, the competition stopped evolving for a while, until a few weeks ago it escalated to something you never thought you would witness or particularly be part of: dominance. It's in fact a lot worse than it sounds. They actually refer to it as respect, but you know damn well that it turned into fear pretty quickly. So the worst part is how they want to reaffirm that dominance; by making people fear them. There are of course a lot of ways of achieving that and we can all agree none of them is necessarily good.
Their first targets were obviously the weak ones and they soon escalated until they got to your category or whatever. You are a nerd, yes, but you are not weak and you do not fear anyone, in fact nobody ever bothers you because you don't look helpless at all. You work out almost everyday and people can tell, so nobody really wants to mess with you. That was something that the jocks and the dancers had very clear, so you thought they'd leave you alone. And they did, until one of the popular dancers decided it would be a good idea to mess with you. Well, he's wrong.
