Holding It Back

Chapter 5

Jani woke up from a thud. That was her, falling off her cot and landing half on Seth and half on the ground She had that nightmare... again. That's the third night in a row. The third night after she blew up at Seth at the police station. In the process of Jani waking up, she knocked her pillow and blanket off of her cot and they fell on Seth's face, just like her. Even after the fight, Seth still wanted to stick with her. He said it was to keep her out of trouble. 

Seth groaned, snapping Jani away from her thoughts. "Every night, Jani. You know, if you want to have a pillow fight you can just ask."

"Sorry," Jani mumbled. She flopped the half of her body that was on Seth onto the floor. Smooshing her nose in the process. 

"Was it the same nightmare?"

Jani sighed, "Yeah." She got up, unzipped the tent and walked outside, to the crisp autumn air. Taking in a few deep breaths. She hasn't this free, yet so trapped in a long time. She found a rock and sat down on it, picking at the seam of her black sweatshirt. Seth joined her a few minutes later and sat on the leaf-covered ground.

"You know," he started resting, a hand on the olive skin showing on her arm, "I'm here if you need to talk to me about anything. I don't care what it is, just know that you have someone to talk to now, okay?"

His statement took Jani by surprise, "Yeah, sure."

Seth gave her a sad smile. A/N Writer's block activates Jani let her jet-black hair fall in front of her face. She wasn't used to this much attention. 

"I'm going to try and find some edible plants or berries," Jani sighed, standing up.

"How would you know if we can eat it or not?" 

"I know my plants." Jani stood up, and disappeared into the woods. 

A/N I'm going to be posting one short chapter every week. Don't forget to comment and vote. I also know that this chapter is really short and I'm sorry about that but the writer's block hit bad and I just got stumped. I might not post next week. Sorry 😭.
