A/N Whenever I write this I listen to this song and I thought it went well with this book so here it is. I can also kinda relate to this song. (Please don't ask why it's kinda personal.)
Jani could hear police sirens coming towards the school. Not again she thought. She just assumed that it was the principal that called the police since she was the only other who had seen her... let's just say... fit. Seth was still watching Jani with a look of terror on his face. Jani let out a forced laugh. She looked up at the ceiling and shoved all of her energy into it. The ceiling exploded, leaving a hole in it. Jani shot herself into the air and flew out of the school. She waited, hovering over the school, to see what Seth would do. She flew higher and higher up. Soon she could barely breathe since she was so high up. Jani plummeted herself down. Falling, the wind whipping at her face. She heard a cry for help from someone on the ground. Probably terrified that there was someone falling out the sky from who knows where. Heaven?
She pours the rest of her remaining concentration into an image of the place she wants to go and a swirly black hole appears right under her, but right before she falls in, a different image pops into her mind. She tried to lunch herself back up before she could fall, but it didn't work. She just couldn't get the image is Seth's face out of her mind. She tumbled out of the black hole and landed right in front of Seth. Exhausted, she crumbled to the ground, passing out.
"Jani? Jani. Jani!," a voice was saying.
Jani's eyes slowly adjusted as she opened them, and she saw Seth taking in deep breaths, with slightly watery eyes.
She slowly sat up and asked, "Are you... crying?"
Seth looked up and wiped his eyes. He shot himself towards Jani and strangled her in a hug. "I thought you were gone," he muttered.
"And your crying about that?"
"I mean yeah, I thought I just witnessed someone die."
"Trust me, the world would be so much safer if I just died."
"What do you mean?"
Jani looked down, and her voice dropped to a whisper, "I'm a monster."
"What do you mean? No your not."
"Yes, I am! Did you not just see what I did? I blew up the freaking ceiling for crying out loud!"
"Okay, well maybe you can do some... special things- but that's perfectly fine," he quickly added.
"Wait," Jani said, she quickly made her way to the window and looked outside, and saw the first responder trucks and cars outside. Jani muttered a few colorful words and tried to fly back out of the building, but she had no energy left from her first teleport fail. She said a few more colorful words. She felt a burning sensation but ignored it.
"Um... Jani?" Seth was looking at her weird.
"What?"
"You're... um... kinda... on fire."
Jani looked down at her hands and saw blue fire flickering off of her skin. She screamed, which was probably a bad idea with the police in the building. They heard footsteps coming towards them. This time it was Seth who said colorful words.
Jani started to hypervetelate, getting more and more panicked. "What should I do? I can't get caught! The police will know who I am! They will sent me to jail for real this time! I won't just get a fine. Why did I have to try to be a normal person and go to school? I made a huge mistake and I really need to-"
Seth cut her off, "I think your good for not being seen."
"What why?"
"You're-a-kind of, invisible."
"Okay, I know that I can fly and teleport and do other weird things, but I think you're taking it too far. How can I turn invisible?"
"I don't know but you are. Look at your hand, or at least where your hand should be."
"What do you mean should be?" Jani asked, she lifted up her hand to look at it, or at least looked at where her hand should have been. She let out a small shreik, and the footsteps of the police got louder and faster. Come on Jani, stop screaming. "I can just go in a corner right now and wait until the police leave once they come in."
"Okay, good idea."
Jani went to the corner farthest away from the door. The door slammed open and the two police cautiously walked in, holding up small pistols.
When the police saw that Seth was the only person in the room, they slowly lowered their guns.
"Who was screaming?" the shorter one said.
"I, uh, didn't hear any screaming?"
"Why do you keep looking at the corner behind us?" the taller one asked.
"Oh, I um, uh."
"You what?"
"I keep thinking I see something over there but I don't it's just a shadow. Everythings fine. I'm fine."
One of the officers looked up and saw the hole in the ceiling. Before the officer could ask, Jani wasn't invisible anymore. Seth saw her and tried his best to let her know, but she never caught on with his weird hand motions. Both the officers turned around and saw Jani.
Jani's eyes widened, "Oh, sh-"
The taller officer cut her off, "Put your hands up!"
