"Stay right behind me," Jani shouted over the snapping of branches and crackling of the fire. "I'm going to get us out of here."

Seth ran up right behind her. "Alright, let's go," he said, a slight strain in his voice. Jani formed a small bubble of space that completely covered Seth. "What about you?" he asked, clearly worried about her.

Jani rolled her eyes, "I'm fine."

She and Seth slowly made their way forward, with Jani moving the bubble along with them. The blue fire, licking at her face, making her sweaty and exhausted. "Almost there," Jani called over her shoulder. No response. She looked over her shoulder. He wasn't there.

Jani's eyes widened. No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! She was not going to lose another person. Not again.

"Seth?" she called. Turning in circles, trying to find him hidden somewhere in the blue flames and smoke. "Seth!" this time louder. Soon it sounded like a weird ritual chant. She was screaming now. Tears started leaking out of her eyes. (I just noticed how much she cries...) "No," Jani was alone. Again. She fell to the ground, she hit it, hard. As she landed, all the blue fire fell and died down. She started sobbing into her hands. Not the quiet, just five tears sobbing. The ugly sobbing, with tears and snot.

She heard a quiet groan off to her left. Her head shot over in that direction. Seth. He was splayed out on the ash-covered ground. She couldn't see any sign of life. No. No! NO. NO! She could not lose another person.

A/N I'm not really motivated to continue this so imma take a small writing break to think of new ideas. Is it weird that I've already started the epilogue? But don't worry there are many chapters to come. I just need some time off. I will be combining chapters to make them longer so if a chapter or two disappear they are just added onto a different chapter.
