The first thing she realized was that he said 'Ashlynn'. Not 'Ash'. Harry had always said 'Ash', but that was before they screwed their friendship. Literally, screwed.
"H-Harry? What are you doing here?" Ashlynn said. She had no clue on why Harry Potter was sitting in front of her.
"The job interview?" said Harry, all confidence faded from his voice.
"Don't you work at Hogwarts though?" she said as she started to sift through the file Casey gave her earlier.
"I quit. As much as I love teaching, I wanted to do something that I literally did my whole life." He started to shift in his seat.
The two knew that their friendship was never going back to the way it was ever since that night. It wasn't that it's because they knew it was a mistake, it's because they never officially talked about it.
That morning, Harry woke up to an empty bed. Every time he tried to bring up a conversation to talk about it, Ashlynn would shut it down or switch the topic. Eventually, he gave up on it and moved on. Well, not really. He still thinks of that night every time he sees her, and with her being his wife's sister, it's pretty often.
Ashlynn knew it was a mistake. Before they left, Ginny was known for being Harry's crush. The girl that he really wanted and didn't get until after they finished school. Ashlynn didn't want to talk about a 'them' because she knew there was no 'them'. There was only ever 'Harry and Ginny' and 'Mark and Ashlynn'.
"Oh, um - well, this is going to be a short interview." She mumbled to herself. She straightened herself, remembering who she was, and brought her act back together. "Well, Harry, I really don't see why I have to interview you to be honest."
Harry blinked at her. "What do you mean?" He asked slowly.
"I mean, I don't think I have to interview you."
"Why not?" He was really hoping that she wouldn't say something like 'you're the chosen one' or 'because you defeated Voldemort'. It made him want to bang his head against a wall.
"Because you're literally the person who taught me everything I know today, besides Hermione. If it weren't for you, I might've not been here today."
It was true. In fifth year, Harry formed a group to fight back against their old DADA Professor. In that group, Ashlynn learned more than she learned from her actually Professor, all thanks to Harry.
"So, you're saying I got the job?" He wasn't exactly sure how he felt about that. Of course, he was happy, but it seemed too easy.
"I haven't uttered those words yet, Potter. I still have to go through a few things - actually, why don't I do that now?" She grabbed his file and started to go through it. "I see you passed all of the requirements needed to become an auror, other than you not finishing your seventh year. But, that's not a big problem. I don't really think anyone would really care about that. I certainly don't. You have good recommendations from your last job and have a solid criminal record. You don't have any concerning red flags that might've withheld you from being hired, so yes you got the job."
Harry was speechless. He was prepared to answer a multitude of questions, to be put under a lot of pressure, to not get the job, but here he is, barely 15 minutes into his interview and he had already got the job. "Umm - thank you. I thought there was going to be a lot more than that. Ron mentioned there would be a part where we had to sing the Hogwarts school song."
Ashlynn laughed as a flashback of Ron failing miserably as he tried to remember the song. It was impossible to keep a straight face during his interview. "That - that was a joke. I wanted to embarrass him during his interview. I saw the opportunity and I took it."
