Virgil had been working in a small bookstore in a mall for about a year now. He still couldn't stand it. It wasn't the job really. All he did at the job was recommend people books and work at checkout. The job was fine.

The people on the other hand.

Somehow he always managed to be stuck on the same shift with the most annoying coworker. He would belt Disney Songs as if he was in the shower, tease Virgil endlessly and he was just overall unpleasant to Virgil. However, he was very charming to the customers and he had a way with getting them to buy more books then they came into get so there was zero chance he'd be getting fired. It didn't make Virgil loathe him any less.

"Virgil?"

Virgil made a face at the bookshelfs he was restocking before turning around "Yes Roman?"

"Do you know when that new book from that nerdy writer is gonna get here? I've had about twenty people today alone ask if we had it."

Virgil forced himself not to roll his eyes at the use of the word 'nerdy' "It should be coming in around mid next week."

Roman nodded "Alright. Thank you for for your help emo nightmare."

"That one wasn't even clever!" Virgil called after Roman as he sauntered away happily.

Virgil went back to restocking the shelves now very irritated. He had a long shift that day and he was not enjoying it in the slightest. His head immediately started hurting when he heard Roman burst into 'I Won't Say I'm in Love' from Disney's Hercules.

***********

"Virgil!"

Virgil winced at Roman's shriek. It was less than five minutes to closing time. What did he want now?

"What?" Virgil snapped.

"You were wrong" Roman smirked "The shipment of books just came in."

"Well then they came early" Virgil replied.

"Anyway the boss said the two of us gotta stay late to stock up and get them ready to be shipped for those who ordered them."

Virgil groaned "Great."

"Look I'm not thrilled about it either" Roman replied But on the bright side we get overtime payment."

Virgil glared at him and Roman simply beamed back.

"Well let's get this over with."

***********

About an hour and half passed before Roman and Virgil were done.

"That took up way too much of my time" Virgil groaned, stretching.

"For once we agree" Roman replied "Let's get out of here."

Virgil nodded. They grabbed their jacket and exited the bookstore.

"Weird to be in the mall when everyone is gone" Roman muttered.

Virgil didn't say anything but he gave a small nod. The two made their way down the frozen escalator and to the exit. Virgil pushed on the doors but they wouldn't open.

"Roman" Virgil frowned "Did the boss tell the security guard we'd be staying late?"

Roman pushed and pulled on the doors and once they wouldn't budge he sighed "I guess not."

"I'm going to check the other doors."

After the two checked every other exit they realised there was no getting out. When Virgil suggested they call someone they both quickly realised that neither of them had data.
