Virgil held onto Roman's waist tightly as they made their way back to Virgil's kingdom. Virgil's parents had died at a young age so Virgil was meant to step up for the thrown but the dragon witch got in the way of that. His royal advisor Logan had stepped up to take his place in Virgil's absence. The kingdom had missed their prince very much and soon word got around that he was locked in the tower.
Prince Roman had heard of Prince's Virgil distress and of course had to save him. The two were from different kingdoms and Roman knew his family would want to see him to make sure he was okay but Virgil hadn't been home in years. Bringing Virgil home was top priority.
They arrived at the kingdom gates in the middle of the day. Virgil stared at his kingdom, his face slowly cracking into a smile.
He was home.
He was finally home.
"Roman" Virgil breathed out and hugged Roman's waist tighter "thank you."
Roman smiled to himself "No need to thank me Virgil, now let's bring you home."
Roman hopped off his horse and offered Virgil a hand. Virgil rolled his eyes but took it anyway and descended the horse. Roman patted Axil on the head and told him to stay.
Virgil was already walking up to his kingdom's gates in awe. Roman followed him but stayed behind to let Virgil take it in.
"I'm really home" Virgil grinned, his eyes watering slightly.
As the two approached the gates guards drew their swords. As they came closer one faltered. He dropped his sword and lifted up his helmet.
He let out a shaky breath "Virgil?"
Virgil recognized him immediately "Long time no see Thomas."
Thomas's face quickly broke out into a smile and he pulled Virgil into a bone crushing hug. It was uncomfortable due to Thomas's armor and Virgil wasn't one for touching but he embraced the hug.
Roman stood awkwardly at the side looking at around, not wanting to watch their moment.
Virgil pulled away from the hug "care to escort men into the kingdom."
"Your kingdom" Thomas corrected.
Virgil nodded "how has it been?"
"Logan has done really well" Thomas said "but it was hard for everyone without you."
"Well I'm back now" Virgil replied then turned to Roman "he deserves some credit for that."
Thomas looked at him and Roman tried to stand taller under their gaze.
"You saved him?" Thomas asked.
"I played a part" Roman said "Virgil really coule have saved himself it it wasn't for a curse."
Thomas ignored the modesty which was rare for Roman and hugged him.
"Thank you for bringing him home" Thomas said as he pulled away "we missed him."
Roman smiled "it's my pleasure."
"Now" Thomas turned to Virgil "care to go home?"
"Only for half of my life" Virgil grinned.
Thomas led Virgil and Roman into the kingdom. As Virgil gazed around seeing the changes Roman could simply only stare at Virgil. The kingdom's residents stopped what the were doing and latched their eyes onto Virgil. Then the whispers started.
Is that really him?
That can't be.
He looks different
Well it's been years of course he looks different.Virgil didn't like the thought of people whispering about him but it couldn't be helped. His story has been whispered about for years.
Thomas had planned to make an announcement when they reached the center of the kingdom but before they could...
