Clearing off tables after slobs was always a job. You'd be surprised how dirty people can be at cafes. Virgil was wiping down the tables outside when he heard the familiar voice. He smiled to myself and looked up to see him. There he was again.
It was his second day of his job when he first saw him. He sang directly across from the cafe, his guitar case left open for tips. Cliche is you asked Virgil, endearing though. He had improved since then though. He had gotten a better guitar, the song was more fluid he still had the same voice of an angel though. It wad nice to listen to on the job and it also attracted costumers.
Virgil smiled at him from across the street. He smiled back in the middle of a song. They had been doing this for a year now. Just smiling at each other. They'd never talk but they'd smile.
"Gawking at the guitar man again?"
Virgil turned to see Janus grinning at him.
"No" Virgil shook his head "Just clearings tables."
"Yeah, get better at lying Virge" Janus rolled his eyes "You've been making goo goo eyes at each other since the day you started here. Please just ask for his number."
"Who said I want his number" Virgil picked up empty coffee mugs from the tables and made his way inside with them.
"Oh please I can see it in your eyes" Janus said.
"That's strange Jan" Virgil used his shoulder to push his way into the back and placed the mugs beside Patton who was doing the dishes.
"What's strange?" Patton asked.
"The fact that Virgil still refuses to deny how flirty he is with guitar man across the street" Janus answered before Virgil could.
"Seriously?" Patton frowned "I thought they'd at least have each others numbers by now."
"Is there seriously a discussion about this?" Virgil groaned.
"Why it's all we ever talk about" Janus smirked.
"Pat, Jan I hate you" Virgil turned on his heels and walked out the doors.
"Look Virgil just give him a chance" Janus called after him.
Virgil went behind the counter "I have anxiety and you want me to go up to an insanely cute guy I don't know and ask him for his number?"
"Precisely" Janus nodded "You don't think you can do it?"
"I absolutely know I can't do it" Virgil sighed.
"Well that's too bad because he's on his way here."
"What?" Virgil snapped his head over the clear doors to see the guitar man walking in the direction of the cafe, his guitar slung over his shoulder.
"That's it" Virgil went to move "I'm gonna go do the dishes with Patton."
"You will not" Janus grabbed him by the shoulder "You are going talk to him. You guys ooze chemistry."
"Janus I don't know-"
"Look Virgil technically I am your manager so you're doing this" Janus grinned and slipped out from behind the counter.
"Deceitful son of a bitc-"
The door opened and in he walked. Brown hair falling out of his red beanie and guitar swinging slightly. Virgil got more and more tense as he walked towards the counter.
"Hey uh Virgil" The guitar man glanced down at his name tag.
"Hi" Virgil gulped "What would you like to order."
"I'll just have a cappuccino to go" He replied.
"Right and who's the order for?" Virgil said.
"Roman."
Virgil smiled to himself. He finally knew his name "Alright Roman it'll be right up."
Roman moved to sit at table and Virgil turned to make his order. As he was doing so Janus snuck behind him.
"Virgil."
Virgil jumped "Janus jesus."
"Virgil I have a proposition" Janus grinned "Why don't you write your number on the cup?"
"Yeah absolutely not" Virgil replied.
"Oh come on shoot your shot" Janus said "Who knows when you'll talk again. It took you a year until you talked."
"Jan I don't even know is he's gay" Virgil reasoned.
Janus raised an eyebrow "I'm sorry did you not hear him singing Heather?"
Virgil laughed "Not enough proof. Now if you excuse me I'm going go give him his order and send him on his merry way."
Janus pouted as Virgil called out Roman's name. Roman got up from his seat and went to collect his cappuccino.
"Thanks" Roman said as you took the coffee.
"Have a good day. We all really enjoy your music here" Virgil complimented.
Roman turned pink "Uh thank you. Look I have something to confess."
"Mhm?" Virgil raised an eyebrow.
"Look I've been playing outside this cafe for awhile now and I've noticed you."
Virgil felt warm "You have?"
"Yeah" Roman nodded sheepishly "It took me awhile to work up the courage to talk to you. Basically I think you're really cute and I'd love to get to know you more. Would you like to go out sometime?"
Virgil blinked at him "Are you serious?"
Roman's stepped back "No you're right. Sorry that wad stupid I should-"
"No sorry" Virgil spluttered out "that came out wrong. I'd love to go out sometime just let me write down my number."
Roman let out a sigh of relief as Virgil grabbed a napkin and pen, he scribbled his number and name on it.
"Text me sometime" Virgil gave him the napkin.
"Yeah. I will" Roman put the number in his pocket "I better get back to singing."
"And I'll get back to cleaning sticky tables and listening to your music."
Roman laughed "I'll see you around Virgil."
"Hopefully Roman" Virgil grinned.
Roman flashed a smile before walking out the door and returning to his spot across the seat.
"Alright loverboy you did it" Janus punched Virgil's arm playfully.
"Yeah yeah."
"Say I was right" Janus ordered.
"I would rather jump off this building" Virgil glared.
"I swear I get no appreciation from you. Now if you excuse me I'm going to tell Patton."
Janus ran and Virgil chuckled to himself as he went. Soon he heard the faint singing of Roman and felt his cheeks go pink.
Guitar Man was something else.
