A few weeks had passed since that day in the throne room. You were starting to feel much better, but your healing only made you question the future. Each day you felt better was a day closer to having to face Thranduil.
You did not leave your room much in this time. Legolas left only to bring food and drink and the rest of your time was spent enjoying each other's company. You talked a lot about your lives and found that reading books together could pass the time. But you never talked about the King.
Legolas and yourself were settling in for a nice lunch together when there was a soft knock on the door. "Come in," you called taking a bite of your food. The door opened slowly and Thranduil's dark figure filled the doorway.
Legolas jumped up and positioned his body protectively in front of yours. "There is no need for that son," Thranduil stated holding his hands up in a gesture of surrender. "I wish to make amends."
"There is little you could possibly do to fix what you have already done." Legolas responded not moving from his protective position.
Thranduil's expression seemed pained. "I promise, I mean you both no harm, please allow me to speak."
Legolas looked at you as if asking permission. You sat straight on the edge of your bed and grabbed Legolas' hand pulling him next to the bed with you. Although Legolas seemed slightly more relaxed he still positioned himself slightly in front of you on the bed with one arm draped in front of you.
"What is it, my King?" you asked respectfully.
Thranduil seemed pleased with this sentiment and took a few more steps into your room. "It is not my place to tell you who to love, Legolas. Although I do not agree with your choice - she hardly has status worthy of a prince..." he trailed off seeing Legolas' angry expression. "But, I cannot deny the loyal service (Y/N) has displayed since joining our guard."
Legolas smiled at you and seemed to be speaking to you and not his father, "she is the bravest of us all." you smiled back at him before the King interrupted.
"Indeed," he paused. "Therefore I have decided that I will not stand in your way."
You nodded to him, "your blessing is most appreciated my King -"
"Although your blessing was not necessary," Legolas interrupted making his position on the matter clear.
Thranduil seemed please before turning and heading out the door. "I suppose I will leave you now." Without another word he walked out the door and closed it behind him.
You looked to Legolas and could see that he was smiling brightly at you. You closed the distance between you and kissed him like all your trouble had gone away. He intensified the kiss as you both fell back on the bed and your spirits entwined.
Months had passed since Thranduil's judgement. Everything seemed to go back to normal. You and Legolas spent much of your time planning your wedding or continuing patrols. Thranduil even assigned a group of servants to help you both get everything you need for the wedding. You were planning a winter wedding, outside and no expense was spared. Thranduil, of course, insisted on approving a guest list and inviting foreign dignitaries. He promised to leave the rest of the planning to the two of you, so you both agreed to listen to his input. He had been rather kind to you recently showering you with gifts of jewelry and clothing that he said would "befit a princess of Mirkwood." Although his gifts had an ulterior motive, you appreciated them nonetheless.
Life was sweet and uneventful until one afternoon about 3 months before the wedding, you were both summoned to the throne room on urgent business.
