School was boring.
I played "Dodge People" all day. Guess you can say I'm hung-up.
I walk to Sof's which was further than mine. I ring the doorbell and her mom appears.
"Oh hi Sylvia! Come in. Sof is waiting for you upstairs."
"Thank you. Mrs. Hemmings."
I go up the stairs and I enter Sof's room.
"Hey."
"Hey, you okay?"
"Yeah. Much better. You?"
"I don't know."
"What's up?"
"Ian told me there was somebody else."
"Oh my." I looked at her. She wasn't sad for me but she was relieved.
"What do you have?"
"The doctor's coming. That's why I called you. I'm scared."
"Pshhh. You'll be fine."
"I hope so."
We watched some TV and pigged out on a pint of ice cream I bought. We were falling asleep when the doctor came.
Instantly, Sof gripped my hand tightly. She's afraid of being sick that why she doesn't like doctors.
He asked what was she feeling and if something hurts.
"I have a bad headache, a sore back and I've been vomiting blood yet I always feel hungry."
"Peculiar. If you don't mind me asking, are your breasts sore? I mean no offense but--"
"They actually do."
"Well then I believe you are pregnant. These symptoms are all common in pregnancy."
"Excuse me, what?! My daughter doesn't have a boyfriend. Can we run a pregnancy test on her or something?"
"Of course. I do not carry tests but her friend can run to the pharmacy and get some."
"Wait, me?"
"Sylvia, please?"
"Okay. I'll do it. Can I borrow your bike?"
"Sure."
I run downstairs and rode off to the pharmacy.
I look for the tests and, with no choice, I ask the pharmacist.
"Excuse me, sir...where are the pregnancy tests?"
"Aren't you too young?"
"My elder sister needs them. Not me."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive."
He took the tests behind him then scanned the pregnancy tests and looked at me. "That'll be $3.99"
"Okay." I gave him a $5 bill.
"Do you have $2?"
"No. Just...keep the change."
"Okay. Have a nice day. Have safe sex."
I bolted out the door and quickly returned to her house.
"Here...are the...tests."
"Thank you, Sylvia."
Sof disappeared to the bathroom and her mother was weeping. I also felt uneasy. After five minutes, she opened the door, crying. Her mother cried louder. I ran to Sof's side to comfort her. I took the test from her hand and it was positive.
I hugged her as she cried and I cried for her. For her broken dreams. The people will judge her. Laugh at her. And that bastard who did this to her.
But when the baby's out I hope he'll bring happiness because Sof deserves so much more.
