"I still don't know your real name," I said to Priya.

"Guess." She answered.

"Something like Emily, I don't know. This whole thing is pretty stupid."

Priya was probably my best friend in this whole "gang, gangster," whatever you wanna call it. She and I had a lot of similarities. We were both brunettes, which doesn't really mean anything but she also is very clean, encouraged, and overall she has an amazing personality. Yet we still don't know each other's real names. Lemme start from the beginning actually.

I was in a shooting while I was in California. I could hear multiple voices trying to get to safety in a secure building. There were so many people that they locked the door to the building I was trying to get in. So I was locked out. People kept running around but I stayed put, begging them to let me in (smart 18-year-old me right). I heard another gunshot, a few blocks away. Eventually, though, I had to move so I went behind that building where nobody was, thinking I was safe. I heard footsteps behind me and my heart almost stopped, before turning around I ran to the other corner of the building. A man holding a gun was there, I'm so dead. I kept thinking, but I tried to stay calm.

However, I turned around one more time to check if he was still there. Me and the man made eye contact. That was probably one of the scariest moments in my life. I forgot to mention I also have panic attacks. I mean I was 18 at the time. And god knows why but I froze. Just froze, completely still. I don't remember much other than the sound of screaming and a gunshot, a gunshot that would have hit me if it wasn't for Jayden (that's what he calls himself). My ears hurt and I could barely hear anything. I tried to talk but he kept telling me to be quiet. Anyway, my luck is awesome because apparently, he's a gangster. Now I owe him something so I joined his little gang. God knows why he chose me, I could've died because I froze and did absolutely nothing. Not to mention I'd never risk my life for some gangster.

In the gang, nobody goes by their first name. Everyone has made up names, (mine is Dixie, sounds weird but I've gotten used to it). I've only told Priya mine, which is Violet. They make it a big deal if we know each other names, mainly because we want to stay undercover. I know everyone's real names, except Priyas. Nobody knows her real name actually. I don't mind not knowing, I guess it's for the best. One more thing. I'd be lying if I didn't say Jayden wasn't good-looking, he has that bad boy type, sort of emo I guess. But he's perfect. Absolutely perfect. And he saved my life, which is sometimes annoying to think about but he's like a real-life superhero. But then again, he's a gangster.

Present

So that takes me to the present time. My birthday just passed last month in March. So I'm officially 20 years old. Feels pretty good. Also, if we want to talk more about Jayden, something happened between us yesterday that I never would have predicted in a million years.

I was casually on the phone about to hang up, "alright bye!" I say hanging up the phone and putting it into my back pocket. I see Jayden looking at me, "who was that?" He asks suspiciously.

"Just a friend," I answered.

"A friend huh Dixie?" He says walking towards me. His light tanned skin and black hair looked so dreamy.

"What's your deal?" I blurted. What am I doing?

He stops and now we are about 2 feet away from each other, wow, he sure is good-looking. Oh my gosh, what am I thinking? I felt my cheeks get all red. Now I'm embarrassed and now and blushing, crap. I look down and feel his eyes on me. Hopefully, he couldn't tell. After all, I was wearing some blush that would make my cheeks a bit red.

"Someones being feisty today." He cautioned.

"Okay whatever, I gotta go Jayden" I mumbled.

"Right now?"

"Yes right now, why else would I stay here..." But just then he walks towards me and I felt his lips on mine. Oh my gosh. I pulled away so the kiss probably lasted about a second or two. I could not deal with this today. Everything just needed to slow down. That kiss was amazing but no, I couldn't think like that. He was probably a player anyway. I didn't need him. As if things couldn't get any more awkward, Adam walks in.

"What were you two doing?" He gushed.

"Nothing." Me and Jayden both said at the same time.

"See you around Dixie," Jayden mumbled motioning me to leave.

What just happened?
