"Honey..." I whine while laying on our living room sofa. Head throbbing in pain I call out to my husband."Yes?" His head peeked out from the bathroom with a toothbrush on hand.
"My head hurts..." I pout at him wanting to get his attention.
"Hold on." He finished brushing his teeth and goes up to me. "Do we need to call the doctor?"
"Nooo it's the usual." I open my arms wanting a hug.
He silently slips in my arms and gently holds me.
"How are you?"
"Just a minor headache." I ruffle his hair. "Don't worry so much." He places a hand on my belly, carrying our child.
Spending a few more minutes in each other's embrace, breakfast was needed.
"You sure the team doesn't need you?" I ask while taking out ingredients.
"I told them ahead of time so that I could stay with you." He gets the pan. "You don't have to do anything I can make us food."
"I'm not crippled honey." I kiss his cheek. "I need to move around so I'll help."
"Just tell me if you need help okay?"
Despite his exterior appearance, he is actually very caring and sweet. With how people usually perceive my husband they think that he's tactless, serious, and even rude. I thought so too until we started dating and soon after got married. He may not be good at reading people but he's trying his very best. He just does things his own way.
I tried helping around in the kitchen but he dismissed me just as quickly as I held the knife. So I decided to watch TV as he cooks breakfast. I stole a few glances at him watching him work with admiration. The way his muscles flex as he moves the ingredients around never ceases to amaze me. He caught me watching him work and raised a brow in confusion.
I mouthed 'You look hot'. He paused what he was doing and looked at me blankly.
"You look hotter." He smiles and gets back to work.
We ate breakfast while discussing what we'd like to name our child. The gender was still unknown to us but we decided to start planning ahead.
A few months passed and finally the last trimester my pregnancy has come to an end. In the middle of the night, I suddenly woke up with a sharp pain in my stomach.
"Honey!!!" I shake him awake. "My water broke!!"
He shoots up and assessed the situation. I could tell he was slightly panicking so I took his jittery hands and calmed him down.
"We can do this honey." I rub my thumb on the back of his palm. "Let's go to the hospital okay?"
He nods and gathers all the bags we had packed days ago for this exact moment. He was way quicker than I was well... I am giving birth so I can't really complain.
"Owwwww!!!!" I stop in the hallway and lean on the wall for support.
"Honey??" Concern laced his voice as he stopped and looked at me.
"I can handle it! Let's get going."
While supporting me and the bags that we packed, he drives to the hospital quickly.
At the hospital, we got a room pretty quickly and were checked in. The doctor said to wait a few hours before labor begins so we did.
"Do you want me to be with you when 'it' happens?" He looks at me with pure concern. His clothes looked disheveled and his hair was sticking out in all sorts of directions.
"Of course." I caress his cheek. "I can't imagine doing this without you."
"I'll be here." He takes my hand and kisses the back of it.
Labor comes, which was a whole ride, but finally, our baby girl was out. I was sweating, panting, and was just exhausted overall. They place the now cleaned and wrapped baby in my arms and left us to enjoy our time as a family.
"Honey..." He stares at me with pure amazement. "You are the strongest woman ever."
"Was that because I was squeezing your hand the whole time?" I muster out a joke, but exhaustion took over. He noticed this.
"It's all you." He kisses me sweetly. "You can rest now. I'll protect you both."
Before I even mutter a response I drift away with the people that I love beside me. Hours probably have passed since the sun was bright out the window. Our child was placed on a crib beside us, the nurses probably did that. Beside me, I see the man of my life sleeping peacefully still holding my hand. I use my other hand to brush away the hair from his face. How blessed am I to be with this man?
"I love you so much." I whisper.
"I love you too." He opens his eyes and smiles.
The baby suddenly began crying. We laughed at the impeccable timing she had.
"We love you too little girl."
