30 Ryunosuke Tanaka

Plot: Tanaka pursues his love interest!

"Yooo!" I feel a heavy arm suddenly wrap around me.

"Noya!" I grin seeing my best friend beside me. "Tanaka! How did you both do in the test?"

"I hate it." Noya narrowed his eyes in contempt.

"It's the worst!" Tanaka complains.

"How about you?"

"I answered a lot!" I fake a smile. "But at this point I don't know if they're correct."

"You too!" Noya sobs, sympathizing with me, while he puts more pressure on my shoulders.

Then suddenly the weight was gone. I turn to see Tanaka lift Noya's arm while maintaining a cheerful expression and communicating. He did it hella smooth that I almost didn't notice it, but I did. I could feel my face flush a bit at his gesture.

"Oh yeah! Could you stay a bit after practice?" Tanaka asks once we step foot inside the gym.

"I mean sure, but what for?" I tilt my head in question.

"It's a secret!" Tanaka grins and runs off to greet Daichi.

"Huh? Any idea what that's about Noya?" I turn to see that he was tiptoeing away. "Hey! Noya!"

I grab his collar and drag him back.

"I PROMISE I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING!" He cries and begs for me to let go.

"Whoa there! I didn't even mention anything yet." I narrow my eyes at him and sighed. "Oh whatever. Your captain is calling you."

"Oh crap!" He hurries back up and rushes to their little huddle.

Their training starts while I relaxed on the bleachers where Shimizu and Yachi occasionally stop by and make small chit chat. Finally, their training ends and they begin to pack up. With nothing to do I asked if I could help them clean up.

"Of course! We greatly appreciate your help." Daichi smiles and told me I could help pick up the balls on the floor and got to it.

Hinata and Kageyama were gathering the balls as well so I took the cart-thing closer to them. They thanked me and told me to just place it in the storage room.

"Yeah just in there." Kageyama points.

"Thank you! We're gonna prepa-"

"HINATA IDIOT! SHUT UP!" Kageyama slaps Hinata's mouth shut and drags him away. "Forget what he said."

I look at them strangely but let it pass. I took my time arranging some of the stuff inside the storage room as some things fell over. I head back out once everything was kinda neat when suddenly I see a strange view in front of me.

"Wh-What's going on?" The team was surrounding me in a half circle majority grinning ear to ear.

"Melody..." Tanaka from the center suddenly steps forward and looked rather bashful.

"Yes?" I answer nervously and look to Noya who just grins and gave me a thumbs up.

"I like you! For a long time now." This made my face feel warm. "I always thought you were pretty and cute! You're smart too and perfect in every way!"

Multiple woos came from our spectators. Then they all collectively raised their own papers with a letters that spelled 'Go out with me?'

"Please be my girlfriend!" Tanaka bows for a few seconds then shoots back up. "But you don't have to answer me now! I just wanted to let you know how I feel!"

Tanaka was a bright red mess, stuttering and nervously looking anywhere but my face.

"Thank you for telling me..." I look down on the floor with an even warmer face. "Let me think about it for a while...a week! By then I'll give you my answer."

Now it's not that I didn't like him even a little bit, but I have to reevaluate the future. Being in a relationship with someone, for me, means being a candidate for marriage so I had to think this through.

And so a week passed by. In that week, Tanaka has been acting normally but was extra affectionate. He stops by my classroom and gives me snacks like sweets, drinks, candies, and much more. One day he got me a simple bouquet and noticed I was feeling a bit down. Another instance, was when we got our test I got a low grade, I passed, but I studied all night for it which made me loose my appetite the entire day. But Tanaka invited me out to eat, with Noya, and paid for my meal too.

I of course tried to tell him that it was totally okay if he didn't give me stuff, but he insisted and said 'Even if you reject me, I'll still keep giving you stuff cause I like you!' With a grin might I add. With that, I made up my mind. I told him to meet me after class before their training to talk.

"Good luck!" I hear Noya's voice then see Tanaka rush my way.

"I'm ready!" Tanaka closes his eyes in anticipation.

He might try to act all tough and unbothered, but no one ever is when possibly facing a rejection.

"I'll do it." I smile. "I'll be your girlfriend."

"..." Tanaka opens his eyes wide, almost in disbelief. "Are you...saying..."

"Yep! I've liked you for a while now, but just wanted to make sure I could see a future with you." I fiddle with my fingers nervously.

"So...that means...we're...?" He moves around nervously.

"A couple." I take his hands in mine and smile. "We're officially dating from now on!"

"YOSHAAAA!" Tanaka wraps me in a hug and spins me around. "You're the best!"

We share a few precious moments together.

"So that means!" I pinch his nose. "You can stop giving me stuff."

"Why would I!?" He looks shocked and backs up. "You think I'll stop giving you stuff just cause we're dating now?"

"I didn't mean it that way!" I immediately clear things up. "Didn't you do all that to make me like you more or something? Though you didn't have to."

"No! I mean kind of but that's not the point!" He crosses his arms and shakes his head. "A true man doesn't stop pampering their woman even as they get together!"

"Now where did you learn that?" I laugh and he follows suit.

"But still! I won't stop. In fact, I might do it more! I want to treat you right in anyway that I can." He takes my hands and looks me in the eyes.

"I'll do everything to make sure that you're happy to be with me as well." We interlock hands.

"Hug?"

"Hug."

We share our first hug as a couple and just relaxed in each other's embrace.

"TANAKA YOU LUCKY BASTARD!" Noya suddenly pops out of nowhere with the rest of the team peeking behind the gym doors.

"You guys!" I hid my face in my hands out of embarrassment. "Noya! Did you bring them all here?!"

"No..." He looks away feigning innocence.

Noya and Tanaka began their usual bickering while the rest of team congratulates us.

"Will you watch our game this weekend?" Tanaka holds his hand out for me to take.

"If you're there." I joke and take his hand.

"We'll definitely win then!"
