"The Comeback and The Longing"

Kaiden told us that Alex would be treated until he fully recovered. And, It's been a week since he was treated. I was inform that on monday, he'd work back to the office.

We decided to throw a party to welcome his comeback. All night we were busy decorating the office, some were busy ordering snacks, some were taking care of decoration needs such as various flowers, and wall decorations.

Clara and I've been staring at our decorated walls for fifteen minutes. "It still doesn't look right." I tilted my head to the right, "Even from the side it doesn't look good a bit." Clara tilted her head to the left, "But, these balloons are good to put here if they are from the left." I tilted my head to the left too, and I'm like, "I don't think so."

"Just take it off." Clara took down all the balloons. "It doesn't fit there. How about exchanging it with writing decorations? It gives a cheerful impression." Clara frowned as she shook her head, "Isn't that weird?"

"Let's try first." I said, pasted the text decorations replacing the previous balloons. "Looks cool." Clara retreated a little distance away, then she stared again. "Really?" I smiled happily. Clara nodded, "All done."

After that I went around to see the others doing their parts.

"Wow, that's an expensive drink." I commented seeing Kaiden preparing canned drinks. "Just take one." Jennifer chirped. Kaiden glared at her. "What? I already took one." Jennifer replied casually. And Kaiden was like, "You what?" Jennifer closed her mouth, "Oops." I laughed seeing the look on Kaiden's face. Kaiden acted protective towards the drinks afraid Jennifer would steal them again.

I saw my father came, so I approached him. "Wow, Alex must be happy." He commented. I glanced at Alex's parents who were also there.

"Your daughter's so beautiful." Alex's mother told my father. My father smiled, introduced me to them.

"I've met your beautiful daughter before. She has a good heart." She stroked my hair. I smiled.

"Could you take me to Alex's room?" She asked. We both left my father and Alex's father talking about business.

I showed her all the rooms, we arrived right in front of Alex's room. "This is his room. I'll just wait here. I don't want to violate his privacy by going inside." His mother shook her head, "Come in, I'm his mother anyway." She smiled. So, I agreed and entered. The room wasn't has any decorations like the last time I walked in. There were only a few necessities and office tasks.

His mother took a deep breath then looked at me. "Every minutes of my life always feels like a failure to be a mother." Her eyes looked at me but her soul seemed to be looking far away. "I love Alex, but I was never there for him. Since he was a little, I was busy thinking about treasures and pleasures of the world. I thought I did my job as a mother by support him physically, but I didn't realize I wasn't support him mentally. Alex used to get what he wanted. Me and my husband thought by giving it all It would made him happy, but how wrong I was. " Her eyes started to water. "He felt so alone." I couldn't bear to see her like that. I hugged her, her body was shaking. "Don't make him feel alone, Laura. I beg you." She whispered.

"Never." I replied. "I'll be there for him." I wiped the tears on her cheeks. "Don't ever leave him." I nodded, smiled softly, "I don't plan on doing it either."

My phone was ringing. So, I said sorry and asked her permission to leave the room.

Mia called me. "I'm going to your office to celebrate Alex's comeback." She said.

"Of course! you, Diksi, and Rio should come." I leaned against the window while looking at the others still busy decorating. "I'll bring Benard too."

"I can't wait to hold him."

"You will." She giggled.

After the call with Mia, I went back to see Alex's mother. She looked up at the window. Her hand touched the glass window, heard my footsteps she turned around, "Are you done?" I nodded, "Yeah."

"I found this." She opened Alex's desk drawer, showed me a photo. "This girl looks like you." I took the photo from her hand. "It is me." In that photo I was laughing unconsciously at the camera.

I remembered that photo when I was at Cindy's party. As I remembered I get embarrassed, at that time I laughed shyly so that Justin would pay attention to me.

"She's you? But, your hair has a different color." I held my hair and saw it, "I'm dyeing my hair brown now."

Why is my photo in his drawer?

"So, you used to have a blonde hair?" She asked while staring back and forth at me and my photo.

I nodded, "Yes, but I don't really like it so I dyed it."

"Ohhh, now I know why Alex likes blonde haired girls." I frowned, "Why?"

"Because, your real hair color is blonde." She replied with a chuckle.

"It's impossible. He dated a woman with blonde hair when he was at college." She seemed to think for a moment, "Then, tell me why there's your photo instead of another blonde girl?"

It was my turn getting confused to answer. "Obviously, this photo taken only for you."

Does Alex has a feeling for me? I knew when he was on campus he liked to stare at me and even got caught by Mr Jay. So, I just teased him but, I never knew Alex's true feelings.

"He likes you, Laura. I know it." My heart was beating at her statement. It felt like my heart wants to get out of my chest. "He may not be that easy to tell you. But, don't give up on him. Stay by his side 'til the end." I nodded. "I know you feel the same like he do. Just give him times and he'll never let you go. Trust me." I smiled looking at my photo. "We have to put back this photo as it was." Alex's mother is so smart, it's not gonna easy to keep secrets from her.

"Everything is settled. Have you finished talking?" My dad and Alex's dad were standing at the door looking at us. "Yes, of course." We went out and closed the door.

"Thank you Laura for listening to me." Alex's mother hugged me one more time before she left, "I'm so happy to be able spent my times with you." My father smiled at our conversation. Then, we said goodbye.

I can't wait to see Alex here again. I miss his gaze, his deep voice, his presence, his annoying face, and his smiled.
