Kenma's POV
Eat, train, get fucked up by some abusive betas, sleep.
The daily lifestyle of this prison was rotated around these four elements.
But as the day passed, that grew into weeks, maybe months. I had lost count. I think it was around then that the brainwashing had gotten into me. I remember my memories of the past becoming hazy. I became more obedient as to what the Organization wanted me to do as well.
I barely noticed that the population of our compartment grew less and less until it was just Shoyo, Keiji and I. Or that my training regimen progressed into something that normal people won't be able to comprehend. I think it was also somewhere in between when they started giving us injections of some fluid once every few weeks. But my mind was blurry. I can't and don't want to remember what they had done and made us do back then.
My tasks became more gruesome. And at the same time, I was applauded by multiple officials consistently after each one because apparently, I displayed a vast amount of talent.
But as a result, I became more separated from my friends. I had more injections, longer training, more tasks sometimes spanning days as I was assigned to assassin people outside the lair.
I know. Why didn't I escape during these tasks? I'm not sure either. By then, I was fully controlled by the organization. I didn't care about my own thoughts. I would've done anything for the Organization. I didn't quite mind the thought of dying when I became useless either.
I had a feeling the other two felt the same. They had their own tasks, which weren't as bad as mine that they had devoted to oblige. But at the end of the day, we still had a connection. Something that only people who had experienced enough of the same thing together to be able to understand. Our conversations still ran freely. The way they expressed their emotions so freely was something that I yearned for. I think they noticed too how I had lost that ability. However, they continued on as if it was nothing including me into any small talk to enlighten my day. I am truly grateful for having such great friends.
Besides that there was something else:
'Kuro'
It was merely a word stuck in my head. I couldn't get it out no matter what. Was it a person? A thing? I didn't know. I had lost every single other memory replaced by the Organization but this word was stuck in my head. Forever engraved into my brain...
------
Time turns quickly when you're left without any senses. I followed and obeyed every petty command the Organization gave and climbed up the ranks quickly. I was their treasure and tool ready for use anytime. A killing machine.
Fortunately, Shoyo and Keiji had still managed to live up to that day as the Org gets rid of the people they don't want. Hinata still goes on missions like me but I think Keiji had become a mentor. But if any of them were to be discarded, I could probably file a request for the higher ups to cancel the arrangement. It would only cost a couple of days being defiled by the officials. I have been through more than enough. Nothing revolving around sexual intercourse affects me anymore as well. We were alive. And that was enough.
I was just back from a mission. Tired of being overworked and ready to fall into a deep sleep, I headed towards my compartment.
Passing by someone, I somehow knocked into his shoulder. It was Keiji. Huh? Why is he here? Does he need something?
"Hey Keiji do you ne-"
"Hi Kozume, you were summoned by the higher-ups again. They said this mission is gonna be tough. Think you should go now before they get angry."
Hearing the words 'summon' and 'higher-ups', my body instinctively stiffened. "Yes, I'll be there, thanks Keiji." I gave him a grateful nod as my fatigued body moved without stopping towards an office.
------
"Ahh, you've come." The annoying voice came from the commander of my assigned division.
"Another job has come for you." He took out a file and handed it to me.
Unfolding the paper, I began studying my assigned target.
"This time's target is a special case. An alpha of course, but she's about to rise up to a senator with some petty speech. Society is so weak nowadays to be influenced by such a small thing. To be honest, she's just a pain in the ass..."
The nonsense continued as I carried on my observations. Something about the woman seemed familiar...
"...as I said this task is hard but I'm sure you, our most capable assassin will be able to smoothly execute this job-"
I was on the ground by the time he stopped talking to look at me. My hands grasping my head in agony. It hurt so much. And I was pretty sure I didn't understand why either. The word that had repeatedly rung in my head had appeared on the page I had previously held in my hands.
First name: Mayumi
Last name: Kuroo
The more I thought of it the worse my headache became. To the point that couldn't even stand up. With this as a trigger, my body must've completely shut from the stress and fatigue.
My commander on the other hand didn't bat an eye. He signaled to guards next to him for them to help me up.
"It seems you are tired, you may rest for today. The operation will commence tomorrow." He gave me one last look before I was towed away by the guards.
"Make sure to be fully prepared for this assassination, as this mission will be a significant one."
Kuroo's POV
It was eight years after Kenma went missing as well as a reported 200 or so omegas that day.
I was in my second year of University studying psychology as a major. I was self-studying when I received a message.
Mom: Hi Tetsurou
That's weird. I thought. My mum was an alpha and had left my beta father soon after he gave birth to me thinking it was a nuisance for having kids. I hated her for most of my childhood for that reason. I care for my family over anything else and she was definitely not a part of it.
But lest my mind wandered off once again to the thought that had twisted my heart for so long. The most important part of my family that was taken all those years back. Kenma. My best friend and secret crush that I had harbored throughout my childhood.
Mom: Are you free tomorrow?
Huh? She's inviting me out, now that's rare.
You: Yea, why?
Mom: Your birthday is coming up, so I'll take you out to dinner.
Also, I'm becoming a Senator of this country so I won't be able to see you often.
Let's think of this as our little celebration.
I scoffed. I knew she wasn't really wanting to invite me at heart. Becoming a senator or some shit. I guess you have to maintain some face and look good pretending you love your family. She didn't even invite dad.
You: Ok, location?
Mom: XXXX
Ha... Of course, she'd pick the famous place where everyone knows.
You: K, See you there.
Bye
Mom: Bye
What a pleasant conversation to have with someone who hasn't talked to you for more than 5 years. When I was young, my mom would still come to visit me every once in a while. But as I grew older, she came less and less, eventually not coming at all because she was 'busy'.
Stuffing my phone into my school bag and scratching that bedhead of mine, I mentally began preparing for the meetup the day after.
