Prologue

A younger Kenma led by a not so much older Kuroo wandered the garden aimlessly exploring the surrounding vegetation. Slightly nervous, the two, more like just one but the other being dragged along, commenced a small game of tag.

A relationship between two kids aged seven and eight began that day.

With ages, residences, and relations so close, the worlds they live in were inevitably contrasted. Their lives unconditionally set by the laws of nature ever since their date of birth. Bound to the limits of the world's hierarchy, Kenma was the lowest of the low, an omega. On the other hand, Kuroo stood at the top, an alpha.

However, all the laws of society and class seemed shattered within this short timelapse. The two resided in perfect harmony, immersed within their own world. Unaware of their status and restrictions tying them back as the strings of fate.

Kenma's mother sat by the side, peering towards the still untainted children with a simple smile plastered on her face. Only when viewing closer, would you see the heavy eye bags dark from sleep deprivation, or the wrinkles of fatigue ravaging her once beautiful skin. Nonetheless, you could still see her glinting amber eyes, fierce with hope for her growing son.

Sitting calmly, beside the woman, Kuroo's father attempted to start a conversation. Pondering a little before bringing up the courage, he hesitated before speaking, "I'm glad they are getting along well... considerably since they are... an alpha and omega." The mild gesture notioned a response from the other.

"Yes, indeed they are quite a match." She sighed from having to mention this for the hundredth time. "However, it comes to my son's choice regarding who he likes and will pair with. I'm aware of his gender's rarity but I want you and everyone else to think of him as a living person, not just a prized possession or tool."

Her vision shifted back towards the small boy with dark black hair flowing to shoulders length. Noticing her gaze, he smiled a little waving before returning to his post.

Giving a small grin back, she let out a prolonged exhale. Questioning out loud, "My son deserves the best in the world just like anyone else, don't you think? Why is our world so unfair, separating everyone into these kinds of genders that restrict their lives. Why is your son permanently an alpha and mine an omega?"

Falling silent from the woman's words, Kuroo's father paused awkwardly, unsure how to respond.

Drowning out the negative atmosphere, a confident little voice arose.

"Here's a flower for you." Kuroo laughed and handed it over to the placid Kenma, earning an indifferent response.

"Thanks... but I'm a boy. Flowers are for girls..." He stared meekly at the small fringed daisy, hesitant at accepting the small gift.

"But you're really pretty." The spiky-haired boy insisted with a loose smile on his face that slightly tilted to the side. His hazel eyes stared right back.

Reluctant at first, Kenma gave in accepting the offer with his minuscule hands earning a content nod from the other before being dragged away again into some other sort of game.

'How cute...' The young alpha thought as he observed the otherworldly omega's every distinct expression.

With an expression filled with regret, Kenma's mother commented once again at their actions.

"And it's more like us betas that don't understand how they feel..."

(Kenma had been an even rarer case within the society, an omega born to two beta parents. Without the help of a person who's experienced similar circumstances, he would have to explore and gain those experiences himself.)

------

Two men dressed in black approached the careless pair. Stopping at a safe distance, they settled down sharing a glimpse at the unaware omega.

Pressing the communicator against his masked mouth, one of the men spoke. "Target acquired, enlisting candidate into system."

The two remained silent observing Kenma's every action. Recording each move consistently as they waited patiently.

A small beep notified the pair. Looking down at the screen, the files of their target had been uploaded. Their mission was complete.

In a flash, the two were gone.

------

That night, men dressed in black scourged the whole country, news reports skyrocketed yet none knew who they were or what they were after. A series of events like this would happen every five years. Some reckon it's a sort of religious ritual but the truth is still unknown or covered by whoever is behind this act.

Entering a narrow passageway from their allocated gate, the two traveled underground before arriving at their designated location.

Walking through the rundown door that revealed an underground maze, the two hesitated briefly.

Swiftly, the pair worked their way through until finally reaching their destination.

Passing through a row of receptors, they booted the data into the central system and walked towards a sided room before sitting down on their allotted chairs patiently as other pairs joined them waiting for the conference to start.

"Ugh, what a pain." One of the two said. "I didn't think that we'd have to go get them ourselves. This just makes me realize that I'll die earlier." He complained.

"Shut it, who do our lives matter to anyway. Our bodies and souls belong to the organization and that is how it should be. When we are no longer needed, we perish." The other replied in a serious tone. "Us omegas are useless in modern society anyway. We are just tools for breeding. Just work hard now so you can become something useful like a mentor for the next generation or something. That'll give you more time to live."

About to reply, the man who spoke first opened his mouth before the huge screen standing in-front lit up. With only a simple image and a low metallic voice, the speakers around began the speech.

"Greetings to all fellow members of our organization. We thank you for the hard work and contributions that you have given us for the past few years. Today especially, you have helped locate new promising candidates that we will collect and nurture for the better in the near future~~~.... We hope for continuous cooperation within this admirable society as we continue to improve and enhance our skills and potential. On this exact day in a few years' time, we will commence the collection of our new subjects of the 13th generation. Shortly after the arrival of our new potential hopes, we will select the needed for future use or mentoring as the rest will be discarded. For now, you are dismissed. Return to your quarters and continue the training regimen."
