Luke's POV:

Luke woke up that Saturday with a message.

Project GC

Alex: So, you guys wanna meet up and work today?

Reggie: Yea, I'm down

Julie: Yea sure

Alex: Cool! Where does everyone wanna go?

Luke: I'm down too, thanks for asking.

Alex: lol man. Figured you were asleep.

Reggie: Yea, we woulda picked you up on our way lol

Julie: umm, my dad doesn't mind if you guys want to hang out over here

Luke: you sure??

Julie: yea, he's chill but we don't have to

Alex: yea that sounds cool, Julie!

Reggie: Yea! Send Alex the address and we'll head over?

Julie: sure thing! see ya soon

Luke: sounds good, thanks!

Julie: yep!

Alex and Reggie pulled up and Luke found himself walking out to the car, hoping that he looked okay. "Hey man, you look like crap." Reggie chuckled and Luke shot him a glare.

Something on Luke's face must have said it because Alex piped up, "You good, bro? Looks like you took that one to heart." "I'm good, just tired." Luke tried but Alex gave him a dissatisfied look. Luke sighed, "Just been weird since I ran into Julie before class yesterday." Reggie shot up, "Oooooo, does our Lukey pookey have a crushy wushy?" Alex laughed and Luke rolled his eyes, "I do not!" his voice came out a little more high pitched than he wanted and Reggie raised his eyebrows. "Look man, she's cute. No hate," Reggie said. Alex smiled, "Yea, bro she seems nice and we'll be getting to know her a little more now." Luke knew that they were right but he did NOT have a crush on Julie Molina. He'd only actually met her yesterday. "Yea she's beautiful but, guys, you know I'm not really into that stuff. Plus, we have to worry about the band," Luke hoped that would end it.

Fortunately, the boys let it go and they pulled into Julie's driveway. Luke heard it first but the boys caught it soon after and the three gave each other a knowing look. Luke booked it for the garage but slowed to listen. Julie Molina was singing and it was beautiful. No. It was angelic. Luke felt his heart pull toward her like a puppet on a string and he had to be near her. Alex was the one to stop him, pulling his arm. "Hey! What-" and then Luke saw the tears. He froze.... Julie was crying and Luke wasn't good with girls who were crying. Yesterday when she'd been crying before he bumped her, all he wanted to do was reach up and wipe all her tears and pain away. But something told him that that would have been weird.

Alex answered, "Bro, she needs a minute. Maybe we should go to the car and text her that we're here."

It was too late....Julie opened the garage doors and Luke stopped dead in his tracks, only turning to meet her eyes. He was grateful to see that she didn't look mad.

"What are you doing?", her voice came out choked. She wiped the tears from her face and Luke didn't stop himself fast enough. He stepped to her and she pulled her gaze from Alex to him. "Julie that was amazing,"  he was glad when his voice was calm. She dropped her eyes to the ground and pulled at her fingers nervously, "Thanks." when she spoke, her voice was small.

Luke took her hand and she looked up at him, "Are you okay? We don't have to work today."

Julie's POV:

"No!" her voice came out louder than she'd intended and she internally cringed at herself. "I- I'm okay. I just...I haven't played in a while." Luke was still holding her hand and he looked at her, "Well you should play more because you're amazing. You're like a human wrecking ball." He was speaking softly, so as not to break her but she chuckled at his metaphor. He looked down and dropped her hand. Julie's hand burned to reach and grab his again but she stopped herself and looked at Alex. "We can practice in here", she gestured to the garage, "it used to be my mom's- uh. It's a studio."

Alex shot her a soft smile and nodded, "Yea. Reggie and I will grab our stuff from the van and we can set up." She nodded and Reggie followed Alex to the van.

Oh shoot.

Julie mentally kicked herself. She had just left herself alone with Luke. She decided not to let him know that she was mentally face-palming, so she looked at him, smiled and gestured inside.

He steps into the studio and she follows behind him. Julie makes her way over to the piano and he leans on the other side as she sits down. "This used to be my mom's space." she doesn't know why she said it but something about Luke is familiar, like she'd known him forever.

"Julie, this place- this is magical." he spoke with a wistful tone as if having a happy memory there. "If you don't mind me asking, what was that song that you were singing?"

Julie looked down at the sheet music for the song that her mom had written for her, Wake Up. She slid it to him, not being able to say it aloud. Luke's eyes scanned over the pages and seemed to come alive at each word. He finished and looked at her, "This is amazing." he paused, "Your mom was really talented." Julie smiled at the thought, "Yea she was."

Alex and Reggie came through the doors with their things nd Luke walked to help them set up.

After they were set up, Luke spoke, "So, I had some ideas for the song.", he pulled his song book from his bag and made his way to Julie. He angled the book for her to see. Julie could feel his muscle flex on her shoulder as he flipped to a page scribbled with the word, Bright, at the top. Julie read the words on the page, "It's not finished yet, but it's perfect for your range," Luke said with excitement. He was right, it was in her range and it wasn't finished. The first verse was almost done but it was missing something.

"What if after I know that I can make it home, it could say, Fight through the dark...and find the spark?" Julie asked and sang the words for him. Luke beamed down at her, "Oh my gosh! Yes that's perfect!" He scribbled the words down quickly on the page. "Then the pre-chorus could be like, Life is a risk but I will take it, close my eyes and jump", he sang the words and it was perfect. "Oh! and then, Together I think that we can make it, come on let's run", she sang it and wrote the words down in his book. Luke looked at her and she shot him a shy smile. "I was thinking the chorus could sound like this," he sang and she joined him halfway through. "Now you go high." Julie sang the last line higher and Luke's face lit up, "That was perfect! You're lyrics were amazing." She smiled at him as he took his bottom lip under his teeth and nodded.

Alex spoke and broke the tension, "That was great guys, mostly Julie."

Julie chuckled when Luke pouted. Reggie piped up, "Yea, Julie, you sounded amazing!"

"Thanks, Reggie.", Julie smiled.
