"...Phil, why are we above a cliff?" The wind whistled below you, and the drop below seemed to swerve and sway under your gaze.

Phil clapped your back, and smiled. "We're here to teach you how to fly, like I said!"

Both of you had wings, but the difference was that Phil could fly and you could not. You had...a slight fear of heights.

When you told Phil earlier today that you wanted to try and overcome your fear of heights, it turned into a first-flight lesson. You thought it'd be a nice day of learning how to fly, relaxing exercises and maybe food afterwards.

But not this.

What is this?

Looking back up at Phil, you gripped the end of his sleeve. "...but why on a cliff?"

"This is the best way to learn." Phil said. "I learned it this way!"

"..."

Shifting your weight from foot to foot, you looked behind you as if someone would come out and save you from this 'lesson.' Though you also knew that this was the best was to learn, most birds learned how to fly straight from the nest. Sure, some of them died, but a good portion of them survived and learned how to control those feathered limbs.

You just hoped that you wouldn't be part of the minority that died.

Phil pulled you closer to him, wrapping his larger wing around your tiny body. "It'll be fine. If you fail on the way down, I'll catch you."

"Somehow I don't trust those words."

"Just because Tubbo got hurt during my lesson doesn't mean you will." Said Phil. "It was one time anyways."

Peeking over the edge, rocks tumbled down the cliff and out of sight. Would that be you? Crashing against the sharp edges of the wall and ultimately dying?

Yeah, let's not do this today-

Breaking free from Phil's grasp, you backed away from him. "Uhm...yeah I kinda wanna live, not die..." Rubbing the back of your head sheepishly, you hoped that this would be enough and you could go sleep or something.

"But you aren't dying. You're gonna fly, I believe in you!" Putting his hands on your shoulders, Phil blocked you from leaving. "It's not that bad, don't worry!"

"I asked for a lesson, not a leap of faith."

"Same thing!"

Phil dragged you back towards the edge, and he gestured towards the horizon with his hand. "If you can fly on the first try, you'll be able to see more amazing views like this."

"But I don't wanna go sightseeing." You replied.

Exerting a large sigh, Phil kneeled down and held your hands in his. He closed his wings and looked straight into your eyes.

"Listen. I know it's scary, being up high like this and all. But you wanted to fly, remember? You asked me to teach you how to fly. And you'll need to be able to know how to fly later on in life. It's a great skill to have, you are your own transportation! You could be a plane."

"Mmm." Still not convinced, you swatted Phil's hands away from yours. "And what if the engines on my plane fails?"

Squinting his eyes in a manner of annoyance, Phil stood up and took your shoulder in his hand again. "You have to be willing to take risks in life. It allows you to experience things you might love."
