A/N Star's chapters!

To Star, it felt like they had been flying for weeks. It had really only been a few days, but it felt like weeks. The first two day had gone fine, with the usual amount of complaining and rest stops, but the third day, it had started raining. Hard. but that wasn't the end of it. Dawn kept getting way in front of the rest of the group, so Star had to keep urging them to go faster, as to not lose sight of her. To make matters worse, Dawn had started leading them in the wrong direction multiple times, and Cherry's complaining was not helping. It was quite draining really. Only Star didn't mind. Much. She was doing this to help her friend.

"Are we there yet?" Cherry asked, for what had to be the one-hundred-millionth time. She was flying under Midnight, trying to stay dry. It wasn't working.

"No." Midnight said matter-of-factly.

"When are we going to be there? I'm tired. Can we stop for the night?" Cherry complained again.

"About two more days to Queen Ruby's palace, Me too, and yes, I'll go tell Dawn." Star answered, flying faster.

"Dawn!" Star called.

"Let me guess." Her friend interrupted water rushing down her face.. "Cherry's complaining again and wants to stop soon, huh?" At Star's nodding, she snorted. "Figures."

"So..." Star prompted.

"Yes, we can stop soon. Might as well quit for the day too. I'll find a place and flash my scales to signal you down."

"Thanks, I'll tell them." Star flew back to her other friends.

"Dawns going to find a place for us to stop for the night. She'll signal us over with her scales." Star told them, speaking loudly to be heard over the rain.

"Thank the moons." Midnight sighed, sounding exhausted.

"I know," Star agreed with her brother. "Dawn wanted to go alone, now I see why. But we weren't going to let her, for a good reason. She needs us-oh! Over there!" Star pointed to flashing yellow scales. "Over here! Hurry up and get down here!" Dawn yelled.

"Always bossing us around. Of course, she gets to be in charge." Cherry grumbled, as they landed in the cave. "Why does she always get to be in charge? When can I be in charge?"

"How about when you can beat me in a flying race? Oh, or breath fire! And do a task for 10 minutes without getting distracted or complaining about it?" Dawn taunted her friend, and Midnight had to cough to cover up his laugh.

"I can do that! It's not funny you guys!" Cherry tried to sound mad, but she was smiling too.

"It's late," Star said hating to break the good mood. "We should rest and continue in the morning." She looked around at her friends who were all nodding, only then starting to get a sense of her surroundings.

The cave was large, big enough to fit ten dragons comfortably. It would be quite dark, but Midnight had made a torch with his fire breath out of a stick that had been blown in by the wind. Dawn and Cherry had both changed their scales to bright yellow, trying to make what little light they could. The ground of the cave was rough and there were little pebbles and sticks scattered about. The cave went back far enough that you couldn't see the back without more light, and it got much narrower.

Star lit her own torch and tried to prop it in the ground with rocks. "I can take first watch."

"First watch?" Cherry was digging through here bag. She pulled out an apple. "I don't get it," She said with her mouth full. Dawn rolled her eyes. "It means one dragon stays up for part of the night to keep watch and make sure nothing happens then we switch. Just like we have done last night, and the night before... got it, Melonhead?"

"Oh, well then go ahead, Star!" Cherry finished her apple. "Good night!" she pulled a blanket she carried out of her bag and threw it over herself. Midnight followed suit. "Wake me up for my shift," he said sleepily.

"Do you think," Dawn said brushing off the ground with her wing and laying down a blanket. "We should let Cherry have a shift yet? She will probably fall asleep, like she did the first night."

Star had to put a talon over her mouth to hide her laughter. "I know," she picked up her torch still in the ground and walked farther into the cave. "This goes back pretty far." She kept walking. "It's like a tunnel. Maybe we should look and see what is back there-just to be safe." She said, thinking aloud.

"I want to, but we can't go exploring without Cherry and Midnight. You know they'd want to come. Let's do it tomorrow, maybe." Dawn started to walk over to her friend, but suddenly the torch went out. Dawn heard a small oof from somewhere, but she couldn't see anything. She let out a pump of fire toward the back of the cave, but it was too late. Stardust was gone.

A/N: Wow! I now know why authors love doing suspenseful cliffhangers. It is so fun! The next chapter should be out soon, thank you so much for reading!
