"good morning," sam whispered, waking me up. i kept my eyes shut, yet i could tell the sun was shining through the window. i 'mmhmm' towards him, turning in the bed, tugging the blanket with me. i could hear sam chuckle lightly.
"it's time to get up, darling." i open my eyes to see him still in bed next to me.
"can we not just stay here?" i ask, cuddling further into his arms. he laughs sweetly and hold me tighter. he places a soft kiss against the top of my head.
"yes but you need to eat." he opens his arms and motions for me to get up. i pout sarcastically before slowly getting up. we make our way to the kitchen, where sam makes pancakes as i sit on the counter and watch him. i continued to yawn as the smell of the pancakes filled the air. sam laughed softly at me.
it wasn't too long before he served the plates of breakfast. i hopped off the counter and met him at the table, where we sat and ate. although it was mostly quiet, it was nice.
"you want to watch cartoons all day?" sam asks suddenly. i look up from my now empty plate, a smile at my lips.
"yes, yes of course." i can see him start to smile widely at my response. he quickly takes the plates and sets them in the sink before making his way back into the bedroom. i laugh at his eagerness and follow him. as i walk in, he's already set up the tv to the cartoon that we both talked about on our first date, looking at me with sparkling eyes.
the small scene before me makes my heart burst.
i quickly crawl back into bed, falling into his arms as he presses play on the first episode. we had rewatched this show seemingly countlessly times by now, yet every time it seemed to only get better. i remember when we first started dating, we watched this show together and absolutely adored it.
yet this time, i couldn't focus on the show itself. as if i didn't have every episode memorized by now. yet, i found myself more focused on my position. my head resting against sam's chest, his head on top of mine. i could tell he was smiling. his arms wrapped safely around my back, holding me in place.
"are you even watching it?" sam whispers down to me. i laugh softly into the cotton of his shirt.
"yes, i'm watching," i reassure him, moving my hand to hold his that dangled off the side of my frame.
"okay," he pauses the show. "then what just happened?" i laugh at his childish behavior, which he responds with a laugh.
"i know every second of this show, honey." i smile at him. he huffs, knowing i was right. i rest my head back down against his chest and he unpauses the show. deep into the second episode, sam's eyes filled with a spark as he watched the two main characters talk dramatically.
"hey," i whisper, getting his attention. he looks down at me, offering a smile. "i love you."
"i love you too, darling." sam tightens his arms around me for a few seconds before loosening back to his original grip. the smile that had been on my face all morning seemed to only grow.
i closed my eyes, now focusing on his heartbeat, which played a soft rhythm. it was a little fast, but that happened every time we cuddled. suppressing a chuckle, tap the beat onto the back of his hand that's still holding mine. he notices and places a kiss on my forehead before going back to the show.
i slowly start to drift back off to sleep, lulled by the sound of his heartbeat and the soft music of the outro song in the show. just as i'm about to finally fall asleep, my finger stops tapping against his hand.
i can hear a soft hum of disapproval before i can feel him shift. knowing him, he was looking down at me. then i could feel him hum softly, this time in acceptance, as he goes back to his previous position.
"goodnight, (y/n)."
