"So apparently Rein wasn't fast and I overlooked the revamped stat sheet... so lets say its her sister or something idk. Also sorry i didn't update last week, a lot going on tbh. This was one of the times I broke my consistent 1 update per week schedule. Also if you enjoyed this fanfic of a Collab then feel free to check out AbNormal. It has like 4 chapters or so."
John, Ben, Elaine, Arlo and Blyke were walking out of the station after a very awkward and silent train ride. Arlo, was getting used to walking with one arm as it made him lean to the right quite a bit.
"Alright John what's the game plan" Blyke asked, activating his ability for John to copy. John activated his and raised his hand with a laser at the tip of each finger.
"Woah, it's like what you did when fighting Jake! Come to think of it, Jake also used an ability similar to mine. But instead of releasing energy in the form of a laser..." Blyke began.
"He released it as a shockwave to push himself forward" John finished. "It's an upgrade to your energy dash. Instead of pushing yourself with beams from your hands you use your entire body. It's a lot more energy draining but it will increase your speed a lot."
"Yeah. I guess there is a lot more to my ability than I thought. Jake also said that my ability was undeveloped" said Blyke, summoning a second fingertip laser.
"And what about me?" Arlo asked.
"What's your ability again?" Ben asked, pulling out a thick book out of the air.
"Barrier, it reflects damage to the opponent no matter how strong they are. I can summon a barrier disc to conserve energy but I don't use it anymore. It also has no reflective damage. "
"A disc? Since when?" John asked. Arlo activated his ability and summoned a barrier in the shape of a thin circle instead of his usual dome.
"Can you throw it?" Ben asked, while John summoned a floating disc. John nodded to Blyke to take a shot at it
"Well I can, but not very far."
"What about making 2 barriers?"
"Can't. 1 is my limit"
"What about 1 barrier with twice as thick?"
"It's as thick as I can get it."
"Ok. So the defense is something we need to work on but I have a question about your speed."
"My ability doesn't give me a speed boost."
"But can't you push yourself with your barrier? I know you can control who can go in and out, and you can expand and contract the barrier at will. You can also create a part of the barrier and use it similarly to how you use your barrier."
"That is correct" Arlo answered, looking over to where John and Blyke were. Blyke was laying face down while John was saying something to him.
"So in theory, can you create tiny parts of your barrier to push yourself and increase your speed?"
"Well the expanding and contracting part of my ability is rather slow, so even if I did, it wouldn't give me a lot of speed like Blyke's lasers."
"Still, even a little speed is good enough. Also another theoretical question" Ben began, writing down some notes. "So if you make a barrier under your feet, expand it, and make the bottom part walk through for everyone, will you technically float above your opponents? And if you make 1 small part of a barrier under one foot, raise the other, create another barrier, raise the first food, and continue that, will you be able to climb up through the air?"
Alro thought for a second, then he looked down, summoned a barrier, and began to push himself upwards. After he reached about 3 meters, the barrier stopped expanding. Ben walked up and tried to punch it, only to phase right through it.
"So you can't push yourself up further than the barrier can expand. Alright theory tested. So what about speed?" Alro jumped through his barrier and summoned a barrier behind himself. He then began to run towards Ben while having the barrier expand. Unfortunately the barrier wasn't fast enough so it did nothing.
"What if you summon a barrier under your foot, and expand it while pushing yourself forward?" Arlo did just than, and this time there was a small noticeable difference in his speed.
"So that theory works. Even if it ever so slightly increases your speed, it still increases it."
"Can I ask why we are training my speed when the whole point of this training is to make my barrier more durable?" Arlo asked.
"Having better mastery over all the different parts of your ability can help you think of different ways to use it. If you just think about improving one specific aspect of your ability, you might miss a few things."
"So training my speed somehow increases my barriers power?"
"Think of it like a skill tree. In order to learn a new skill you need to have a set of skills mastered before it. You might need to be a bit faster to deal a bit more damage to be able to take a bit more damage. Who knows to be honest, abilities are confusing."
"Alright, not like I have an alternative method of training. Though I would rather train with John next time."
"Fair. He might find techniques from different abilities that could work for your ability, who knows. Until then I want you to practice running around while pushing yourself, and jumping higher while pushing yourself as well.
"It's been a while since I trained like this."
"High tiers don't get much training do they? I knew a guy wh..." but Ben never got to finish saying what guy he knew, because Blyke knocked him down and continued flying with red energy flying out of his arms, feet, and a little from the back.
"YOU ALMOST GOT IT BLYKE" John yelled, using a better version of the technique to dash after him.
Next time we get John's and Blyke's pov and maybe some stat sheets of their progress. I'll add like 1 or 2 stats since raising it too much would be kinda bsing the training arc. Then again, it's a technique that the ability is ready for? Like if your ability always had a speed buff if you just pushed a but of aura from one foot to the other? Idk sorry it's 2 am. Ima just stop now.
