Valka sighed as she and Cloudjumper flew back to the Alpha's Sanctuary. It had been a trick - and a trap. Valka and her dragon had flown way east to an island that a friend had informed her of. Apparently, they were holding hundreds of dragons, some very rare even, but no. It had been a trap. Some friend. She and Cloudjumper had barely escaped with their lives. The small armada and large group of people housed no dragons, but they had plenty of sling shots, bola launchers, and bows. And they were waiting for her.

Valka sighed once more and leaned against one of Cloudjumper's spines. At least they were almost home. She could see the spikes of ice in the distance, along with a cloud of smoke rising from the top. Wait, what? She squinted at the nest, and realized with a start that they had been attacked! Was this part of that Birchlog's scheme as well?! To distract her and attack the nest while she was gone? How did he even know where she lived?! "Hurry Cloudjumper!" Valka shouted to the Stormcutter.

Within minutes they arrived. Valka could see the top of their sanctuary was blown open, and smoke billowed from the hole. This must have been recent. The hole didn't look like it was man made though, and there were no ships around. Surly they won't be too far from here yet? Valka frowned as Cloudjumper dived into the hole.

She gasped.

The dragons were flying all over the place, panicked and angry. The Alpha was even on his feet, and a dead Monstrous Nightmare lay on the cavern floor, impaled by the ice.

Valka couldn't believe it. What had happened in just the few hours she was gone? It wasn't people, or at least not people on ships. Besides, the hole looked like it was made by a dragon. Then it clicked. People riding dragons. It made sense, actually. No dragon would purposefully attack her Alpha's sanctuary, as they all saw it as a place of protection and peace. But if a group of humans had manipulated a few dragons to join their side...

Valka flew back through the hole and peered into the clouds. She guessed it didn't matter now. Whoever had done this was long gone by now.

Storm lazily dragged his toes through the clouds. He was exhausted. Between traveling, fighting, and escaping, his body had become severely tired. He just wanted to lay down and go to sleep... but unfortunately enough for him, there was no were to stop. So far, anyways.

The icy nest obviously did not work out, and now, as the sun sank below the clouds, Storm realized he had no were to go. The whole Alpha's nest experience alone had proved to him what he had worried about for years: No one wanted him. Not at the Sanctuary, nor out here. A tear dropped from his eye. His mother would always tell him otherwise. "You just have to find the place you belong. It's out there, you just have to find it."

Storm sighed. Maybe his mother was right. No one was going to do anything for him: he had to do it himself. Storm would find a home, along with friends that actually cared about him, someday. And if it took him his entire life, then so be it.

With renewed hope, Storm continued on.
