Storm's wings let off their horrendous shriek as he swooped towards the island. A ship loaded with several catapults had reached land, and several humans had breached the shore. Come on, come on, come on! Storm internally yelled to himself as he saw the humans begin to load the cannons.

He was almost there when they cut the ropes. Not good. The catapult let out a snap as a massive boulder cracked the side of the mountain like it was an eggshell. Not good at all.

Storm managed to destroy up one of the catapults just before the other 3 fired. And that was all it took. The mountain blew open, and Storm could hear the dragons' cries as several were buried alive. An army of about 20 dragons charged out to aid Storm in blowing up the ship, and they did indeed make short work of it. Unfortunately, the damage had already been dealt. Ten of the humans had snuck past the dragon's defenses and now beelined it to the cover of the mountain. On top of that, three more ships pulled up. As Storm observed all of this, he suddenly felt claws nick his head.

"Hey, sleepyhead! You gonna sit there and watch the show, or are you actually gonna do something?!"

It was Achira!

"Achira! Your alive!"

Achira rolled her eyes. "I'm fine, but the Sanctuary is not. We need to defend it with the best of our abilities. After all, it is our home. Our only home."

"I know, I know, I'm coming. Let's take out those bola launchers first, whatya say?" Said Storm. Achira grinned to the best of her ability. "Race you!"
With that, the two hybrids took off into the battle. Storm blew up one bola launcher with one well-aimed plasma blast as Achira fried the deck with her golden magnesium flame.

Storm aimed towards the middle of the next ship, knowing that it's the location where most humans store the explosive substance they call "gunpowder," when he was no longer flying. What the... Storm looked down at him self, revealing a bola wrapped snuggly around his wings. Uh-oh.

Storm hit the deck with a painful smack. Immediately, humans surrounded him with their knives and swords. But they were no match for this Skrill Fury. Storm tripped half of them with one tail swipe, and the rest die to a plasma blast. As quickly as he could, Storm broke the bola and joined the battle once more.

Then he saw the Sanctuary.

It was on fire from the several flaming stones the humans had catapulted into it. A massive hole was blown into the side with rocks and fire spewing out the side. Storm charged back towards his now demolished home, only to realize the internal damage when he arrived. Nests were caves in, dragon bodies littered the floor, and worst of all, he could see several wings or legs poking out from under the rocks. Storm squeezed his eyes shut and looked away.

His head pounded in anger, and he whirled around with newfound fury.Gathering bottled up lighting in the back of his throat, Storm sent a thick beam of lighting at his attackers. His vision turned red with anger as he saw more bodies strewn across the floor, some even hatchlings. This was a slaughter.

Rocks jarred loose from Storm's attacks fell onto the remaining humans, when suddenly he was thrown clear. A massive explosion rang out, so loud that it could most likely be heard from several miles away. For Storm, the world spun, and turned black.

Snap.

Storm's eyes flew open and he took a deep breath, only to chock on it. He coughed hard, barely able to see through the smoke around him. What happened? As his vision cleared Storm saw rocks everywhere, several trees, some fire, and a pool of... lava? Where... That's when it hit him. The only place lava could be found on this island was the Gronkle hatcheries in the back of the mountain. That meant... Storm's eyes widened when he realized what he had done. That blast of lighting must have torn through the mountain and struck the hatcheries, resulting in a massive explosion that had probably killed everything in it's radius. Who was alive? The explosion no doubt triggered a massive cave-in. Was Achira alive? Sharpfang? What about... oh no.

"MOM!" Storm screeched. She must have still been trapped in her cage! Stupid, stupid! You should've checked on her! Alora always keeps her locked up and you know that! As he half ran half flew, Storm screamed for his Night Fury mother over and over. He jumped, flew, and dived through the debris, hoping to find the awful cage that held his mother.

Then he saw the wired door. He must be close! Yes, up ahead was the rest of the cage, but something made him stop. The entire top was caved in, and the area reeked with the smell of burnt flesh. A lone black wing peeked out from one of the rocks. Time seemed to slow as Storm picked his way over to the wing. He pushed the rock as hard as he could, and managed to uncover the body of a jet black Night Fury. She wasn't breathing.

"No," Storm whimpered. Twilight couldn't be dead. He sniffed her over and checked for a heartbeat, but her body was cold and still, her eyes staring emptily into nothingness. Groaning, Storm draped a wing over his mother and lay beside her. Sorrow crushed his heart as his eyes glazed over. It was all his fault she was dead; he had caused the cave-in, he failed to check on her, or maybe even free her. Night Furies were very, very rare, and there may not even be another out there. Storm knew Alora had spent years searching for a Night Fury, to of course add it to her "collection." Storm hoped she was buried under 10 feet of rocks and mud. He would never obey her again. With a sigh, Storm drifted off to sleep.
