"Carol," Bucky pleaded, "We need to do something."

"And what if this is all a ploy? What if this is all part of their plan?" the Captain argued back.

The sound of boot meeting soft tissue echoed through the empty alley, cutting of the teams argument. Maya didn't cry out in pain or try to fight, she simply curled around the pain, embracing it.

"Stop being paranoid and let's help the dam girl. We can find out the consequences later," the Falcon said removing his suite jacket allowing for his wings to pop out. He jumped out from behind the teams hiding spot ready to take down the two men, but Bucky was already a step ahead of him.

The Falcon trailed behind the Winter Solider, who made quick work of the two attackers. With the swing of a metal arm and the crunch of bone, the two men hit the ground.

Maya stayed curled up against the brick wall shaking. Her once pink dress now covered in a smattering of red petals. Reaching down towards her, Bucky went to pick her up.

"Don't touch me," she spat at him through bloodied teeth. Her eyes met his as she lifted herself up onto her feet. "I didn't need your help, I know how to handle all of this," she gestured toward the two bodies, wincing in pain. "You should have listened to your Captain, 'cause you just made my life a whole lot more difficult." Spitting out a mouthful of blood, Maya limped out of the alleyway, heels in one hand, mask in the other.

"Where are you going?" Sam boldly asked.

Glancing back over her shoulder, the Siren replied, "Home." As if sensing Bucky's next question she continued, "And don't come to my rescue, watch from you're bloody cameras if you must, but don't help me." Looking Bucky in the eye she finished, "I don't need your pity."

"Let her go, Bucky." Captain Marvel gripped his wrist before he could walk after her. "We'll do as she says. Nothing happened tonight, we can trust her, somewhat. Let's get back to base."

"That was a quick change of heart ," commented Sam.

"Well I don't think she'd chose to end her night like this."

"Wow! What a revolutionary idea, Carol."

She raised her eyebrow at Sam before they headed back inside. Bucky looked back at the splashes of Maya's blood on the ground noticing a small hair with a tiny pink metal flower stuck to the end of it. Picking it up he placed it into his suit pocket and then followed the others through the door back into the masquerade.

Maya could feel her legs giving out from under her as she tried to make her way back to HYRAD's headquarters. She settled herself on the curb in a dark alley to try and salvage what little composure she had left. Held back tears slowly trickled down her face that was then accompanied by a shaky intake of breath. Her body began to tremble with more silent tears. Tucking her knees into her chest she tried to control her breathing, tried to calm herself as her breaths came faster.

It was like watching a movie play out when you knew something bad was about to happen, and there was absolutely nothing she could do about it but watch. Maya knew that when she went back to HYDRA she was going to be reprimanded for her betrayal. A sob burst from her lips as further panic set in.

"So pathetic," a familiar deep voice said from behind her. "Get up." A hand gripped her arm yanking her onto her bare feet. Maya looked up into the eyes of the head of HYDRA, and the new Vice President. "Let's go and debrief you, shall we?" His teeth gleamed in the streetlights as he guided her back to base, his blonde hair acting as her beacon towards destruction.
