Amelie's Point of View

There was a sudden knock at the door that jolted my body awake, I hope it's Warren.

I opened the door, instead it's Nathan and Dakota, "What's up you two?"

"Good morning sleepyhead," Nathan said opening the door past her and walking in, Dakota followed. "No Warren?"

"Not this morning. Caught me on a lucky morning," I said sitting back down on my bed.

"Anyways," Nathan said and motioned to me to Dakota to me.

"Oh, yeah!" Dakota said. "So, basically, I've never been to a party before so I really don't know what to wear to the party tonight, or if I even have anything."

"You came to the right place," I said.

I continued talking to them and I even gave Dakota a dress for the party, but soon enough they left.

I should text Warren, see what he's doing.

Me: Hi Warren, wyd!

Warren: I'm in science right now. You? :)

Me: Welllll Nathan just showed up with Dakota and I let her borrow a dress for the party tonight.

Warren: Oh yeah! Forgot that was tonight, we're gonna have hella fun!

I laughed at his last text and set my phone down. I didn't have any classes, but I was packed for tomorrow which worried me. I was probably gonna get home late tonight super wasted, tomorrow I'll for sure have a hangover. My classes tomorrow are gonna be a nightmare. Maybe the world should end with this party.

Since Warren, was in class, I wasn't sure what to do. Am I really that dependent on him already? We've only been together for almost a week, it's felt like forever though. Maybe because we have been friends for some time, not like crazy close or anything, but we were still pretty aquatinted with one another.

I decided I was going to go to the dining hall and get some food. I locked up my dorm and started walking towards the main campus. As I entered through the main buildings, I bumped into someone.

"Amelie Prescott!" He said, it was Mark Jefferson.

"Oh hey," I said. "Haven't seen you in a while!"

My dad would have Mark come over sometimes for dinner, my dad took quite a liking into Mr. Jefferson, he thought he was the coolest teacher at Blackwell, at least that's what he said to me. They probably had some business arrangement, as Mark Jefferson was famous and rich. Rich people gotta stick together, I guess..?

"Yeah, I've been caught up with some extracurricular things," He said. "I look forward to seeing you at the party tonight, you'll be there, right?"

"Wait, what are you doing at a Vortex Club party?" I asked in confusion.

"I'm announcing the winner to the everyday hero contest," He explained.

"I had no idea that was a thing, not a photography major y'know," I laughed.

"I really wish you were," He said. "I think you would excel in photography, if you were anything like your talented brother."

"He's so talented," I said in agreement.

"Yeah, he sure does know how to capture a subject," He said.

"You can say that again."

"Anyways, I've gotta run, see you later Amelie?"

"Yeah, sure," I nodded and walked into the building.

"What the fuck are you doing talking to him?" Nathan said angrily walking up to me.

"What do you mean?" I asked. "It's Mark!"

"Just — stay away Amelie."

"Is everything okay Nath?" I asked concerned.

"Stay away from him Amelie," Nathan ordered in a serious tone.

"Okay," I nodded. "Whatever you say Nath, I trust you."

"Good," He said pushing past me. "I gotta fucking go. See you later."

I stood in the hallway, super confused. What just happened? Why didn't he want me to talk to Mark Jefferson?

Mark Jefferson always did the family photography shoots growing up. Whether it was birthday parties, or Christmas cards, I've known Mark Jefferson since I was a child. He was always so sweet and nurturing to us.

"Hey Amelie," Warren said.

"Warren, oh, hey," I said.

"You were spacing out," He shrugged. "I was trying to get your attention for a few moments there. What's on your mind?"

"Nothing," I said putting my hands in my pockets.

"Let's go back to your dorm," He said.

"You're class doesn't end for another half hour," I said in confusion.

"I don't care," Warren said. "It's the end of the fucking world."

A smile creeped up on my face, "You're right," I said. "Let's go."

I grabbed him and and guided us to my dorm. We must have looked like ridiculous dorks running across Blackwell's campus, hand in hand, heading for the girls' dormitories.

I opened the door to my dorm and walked in with Warren by my side, "Let's lay down," He breathed out. "All that running is kicking my ass."

"Hey weren't you calling me unfit at the cliff?" I asked as we lied down in my bed.

"Shut up," He said. "I did not."

"Mhm.." I trailed off, turning in my bed so our eyes met.

"Did you ever expect the two of us to be together?" He asked.

"Definitely not," I said. "But, not in a bad way, it's just, we were only friends for so long. I thought that if it would've happened, it just would've."

"So what changed?" He asked.

"I don't know," I said. "We went to the diner together."

"Yeah," He answered. "I kinda felt bad for Brooke."

"Oh yeah," I said. "Her."

"She probably stalks us with her drone," He laughed.

"Oh my god Warren!" I laughed playfully hitting his chest.

"I'm only joking.. kinda."

"She probably hates me," I said realizing how she considered me her friend and I just started dating Warren. "It's not too late for you to turn around and go be with her."

"No way," He said. "I had been rejecting her for a while now."

"Why?" I asked.

"I don't know, just wasn't feeling it."

I closed my eyes and listened to his breathing, the pattern in sync with mine. I could fall asleep to this calm vibe.
