Amaya felt ashamed for having voiced her thoughts. Realizing they both were in the same page, she decided to confess. Taking a deep breath, she admitted sincerely, "Atul, I was rejected by the guys for being short heighted, dusky and independent. I genuinely loved talking with you. Suddenly I felt that I could pour my heart out. You are an amazing human being."

She fumbled as she chose her words to continue, "Umm... I am not shallow enough to reject anyone on the basis of looks."

Pouring her heart out, she said, "Looks are temporary, Atul. It is one's attitude that matters. I was forced to accept by this society that I am not beautiful according to their standards so I chose to work hard and get a desirable job. I was happy when I was earning well."

Atul had gone through the same and hence, he could relate with each and every thing she had spoken till yet. Before he could speak, Amaya gave him a tight-lipped smile and continued, "I had regained my shattered confidence when I was able to inspire my colleagues. Alas! My parents couldn't see me happy as they forced me into meeting guys."

"Amaya, calm down. I know rejections hurt especially when people don't see us past our looks but don't blame your parents. They just wanted you to be happy." Atul coaxed her. He wanted to genuinely compliment her that she was indeed, one wonderful woman with a beautiful heart but considering the fact that she might not like his advances, he decided against it.

"You don't know Atul, these prospective grooms used to scrutinize me like a piece of crockery they are going to buy from the market." Amaya said with disgust and anger.

"Then, make sure not to meet any prospective groom from now on", Atul said. Carefully choosing his words, he admitted, "Amaya, when I reached here I was looking forward to meet a girl who would reject me calling me a bald man but talking to you, somewhere I felt you are different. I adored your cheerfulness, your maturity and your thought-process. You are indeed, an amazing woman with a beautiful heart. It hurts that you faced so much."

Taking a deep breath, Atul tried to uplift her mood as he guffawed, "Amaya, you know a girl ditched because I am not like John Abraham."

"Didn't you tell her that she was a stupid lizard instead of some Bollywood actress? She would be anything but Katrina." Amaya huffed in annoyance. She was boiling in anger and Atul could not help but admire the cute antics of angry Amaya.

"Atul, so you genuinely look forward to marry me?" Amaya questioned directly and Atul admired her straightforwardness.

"Yes", Atul chimed in with a huge smile on his face. Finally he was happy to have not been rejected by an amazing girl sitting in front of him, Ms. Amaya Agarwal.

"Umm... I don't know how to say this but..." Amaya fumbled trying to form a sentence while Atul sensed her discomfort. Grabbing her palm into his, he nodded encouraging her to speak about her insecurities.

Amaya could not meet his eyes when she confessed, "As a teenager, when I hit puberty, I developed lots of stretch marks on my calves. I hated when people pinpointed them so I stopped wearing skirts and shorts".

Due to lack of insight in the feminine world, Atul could not understand the underlying reason of her words. Assuring her, he said, "Amaya, you must feel confident of your own skin. Wear whatever you want and be happy."

Closing her eyes for once, Amaya whined, "Atul, you are not getting my point."

"Then explain", he said.

"Umm... I don't have a perfect body. Marriage involves physical intimacy too. If at that moment, you would pinpoint those marks on my calves or belly, I may not like it." Amaya warned him in a monotone.

"Amaya, I too, lack an impeccable body. If you despise my physique later, I may not like it", Atul chortled lightning the atmosphere still not understand the intensity of the issue.

"Can you be serious for once?" Amaya retorted agitatedly.

"Why are you twisting your words again and again when I have a specific answer for all these questions? Goddamit, I am marrying to get a lifelong companion. I don't think you are shallow enough to see marriage as the license of physical intimacy." Atul bellowed glaring at her. He was annoyed for once.

Gritting her teeth angrily, Amaya muttered, "Atul, I know marriage is more than physical intimacy but still, this aspect cannot be disregarded. I hate those men who seek pleasure from extra-marital affairs stating their wives are incompetent. All I need to tell you is, I won't let you consider myself as a pleasure-seeking device".

Atul found difficult to control his laughter at the ridiculous comparison. He respected women and he was one of those men who despised item songs in Bollywood movies because of the sensual objectification of women. He realized Amaya judged him but he could not blame her because the girl sitting before him was meeting him for the first time.

Taking a deep breath, Atul clarified, "See, Amaya, I respect women. I would respect my wife too. Respecting my wife includes respecting her body too. For me, my wife would never be a punching bag to release my frustration. I understand your concerns but be rest assured, I would prefer being a one-woman man."

Taking a deep breath, he continued, "Physical intimacy is a sensitive topic. We can surely have disagreements but we can find a middle ground to deal with them. Though physical intimacy is an important aspect of a married life yet, it is not the only mandate of a successful married life. I believe in developing companionship. Moreover, seeking pleasure outside marriage is called infidelity. A relationship is built on trust and faith so infidelity is out of question. I would never cheat you."

A small smile appeared on Amaya's face which did not go unnoticed by Atul. "I would also stay loyal to you", she said coyly. Atul could sense her blushing and unknowingly he felt elated.

"Amaya, I need to tell you one thing about myself", Atul fumbled as he decided to confess his medical condition. Despite his orthodox parents had urged him to hide this information with the prospective bride but still Atul did not feel right. He realized that the girl with whom he would tie the knot and spend his life must not be kept in dark.

The aspect of physical intimacy was not meant to hurt anyone out there but I simply felt that it is something really important a couple should discuss! 😊
