Eiko- 4 years old
The sound of pitter pattering echoed in the hallway before it stopped in front of a door. A girl of four years stood before a door with a large smile on her face. Her chubby cheeks were rosy, and her blue eyes shined with happiness. Her black hair was pulled into two Dutch braids. A white sundress matched her pure and lovely energy that seemed to radiate from her.
The girl opened the door, looking inside the dark room. Curtains blocked the windows, but a ray of sunshine landed on a small body that was curled on top of a bed. The small body was a boy of the same age. He was curled up with his knees to his chest and his arms wrapped around his legs. Large red eyes looked at me from behind his fluffy black hair.
"Tenko!" The girl squealed before jumping onto the bed with her best friend. The two were best friends at day care, and when her mom left, they could only see each other during scheduled play dates. It had been weeks since they last saw each other, and the girl was excited to be with him.
The girl noticed the unshed tears in his eyes and her excited smile disappeared as worry filled her. "Tenko? What happened?"
A small sniffle broke the silence. "Dad got angry at me again, Eiko. He didn't like my picture of All Might and ripped it apart."
Eiko tilted her head to the side, confused. "Why? All Might is the best!"
His small shoulders shrugged in response. "He doesn't like heroes at all, but I want to become one. I want to be a hero that saves others."
"You would be a great hero, Tenko! We'll get into UA and be heroes!" The four year old girl smiled at her best friend. Her chubby cheeks were pulled back into a bright smile.
"Together?" A boy stared at his best friend who always stayed by his side.
Her blue eyes sparkled. "Together."
A hesitant smile appeared on the boy's face. "Pinky promise?"
"Pinky promise, Tenko." The girl giggled before hooking her pinkie with his. The smile on the boy known as Tenko grew until it took over his face.
"I wonder what quirks we'll get," Tenko mumbled quietly, but Eiko heard him.
She squealed. "I almost forgot! I got my quirk!"
Red eyes widened in excitement. "Really? Show me!"
Eiko held out her left hand and a white mist appeared in the palm of her hand. "Dad says that it's a healing quirk. I healed a bird a few days ago, but I don't know why my right hand won't do the same."
"That's so cool!" Tenko studied her hand with round eyes.
"Ah!" The girl hissed in pain before covering her left eye.
"Eiko!" Tenko waved his arms around her in worry and helplessness.
Eiko waved her friend's worry down. "It's fine. My eye hurts a little bit."
"Let me see," Tenko pulled her hand down, seeing a gold hue fade from her left iris. Her now completely blue eyes smiled back at him.
"See, I'm fine!" Eiko giggled at her friend's worried face. "When we're older, I'll heal you if you get hurt!"
"Really?"
The girl nodded, her hair bouncing with the movement. "Yep! We're going to be heroes together!"
A scratch at the door distracted the two children. The door creaked open and a small corgi dog waddled into the room. His large brown eyes landed on its owner and after giving a soft yip, the dog jumped onto the bed before laying on the boy's lap. Tenko giggled as the dog licked his face. "Mon-chan, stop it!"
The two children giggled innocently while their parents were in another room. A tall man that overshadowed the couple placed his tea cup on the table. "I want to thank you, Kotaro, Nao, for letting Eiko meet Tenko one last time."
"Last time?" Nao Shimura, Tenko's mother, stared at her best friend's husband in surprise. "Daichi, what are you saying?"
Daichi, Eiko's father, sighed. His red hair that was usually swept back in a neat hairdo looked messy. Bags darkened the skin underneath his blue eyes. "After Yuki's death, I found that I can't live here anymore. I'm going to take Eiko to Hosu. I've already taken the promotion. The Lab doesn't need me anymore, and I need to start living again."
Nao leaned forward. Her light brown hair swirled around her shoulders in soft waves. "I love you and Yuki as my own siblings. I'm sad that you're moving but I support you. Take good care with Eiko. She doesn't understand why her mom is gone."
Daichi's fist tightened as he hid his emotions. "I will. I love her."
Kotaro frowned. "We did, too. If only she wasn't a hero."
"Kotaro!" Nao exclaimed in horror. She knew of her husband's hatred of heroes but he didn't need to say that in front of a man who lost his wife.
"No," Daichi growled. "He's right. If only she wasn't a hero, she would be alive. She'd be with me. She'd still be here."
His voice grew heavy with both sorrow and anger. Tears filled Nao's eyes at her friend's suffering. The sound of feet coming towards them had the adults trying to wipe their tears away. Two children with a corgi following their feet entered, and Eiko immediately went towards her father. Wrapping her father in her short arms, she hugged her father. "Daddy, don't be sad! Mommy will come back."
Hidden from his daughter and friends' eyes, his eyes hardened in anger. He started to hate the idea of heroes, and he would be damned if his daughter followed her mother's footsteps.
