Eiko- 7 years old
The explosion of a gun spitting out a bullet ended the chaos that had been rampaging inside the dark room. The hanging ceiling light swung back and forth, illuminating the basement. With every swing, the light revealed the gruesome scene. Papers were falling to the ground lazily, and black liquid seeped from broken test tubes. Glass from the equipment was scattered over the floor, looking like shavings of ice. The black liquid converged with the blood that covered the room. Bloody handprints were smeared against the walls and overturned equipment, filling the air with a choking smell of iron.
In the middle of the destruction were the two people who caused it. A large man knelt before a small figure. His shoulders were bent over, and he clutched the wound on his left shoulder, trying to staunch the bleeding. His blood, red like rubies, seeped through his desperate hold, staining his previously stark-white doctor's coat. Blue eyes squinted in pain as he faced the figure before him.
"Eiko," A voice groaned my name in agony. Blue eyes that once held a crazed expression looked at me with a clearness that I hadn't seen since my quirk first manifested. "Save me."
I wanted to smile, but after years forgetting how to smile, I shoved the small sadness that arose at the thought before showing that my tormentor could no longer torment me. I tilted my head slightly in confusion. "Save you?"
Something crawled underneath my skin, begging to be released. It covered me in a comforting and reliable sense. It had been with me for years but never abandoned me like others have. Black dust appeared around my body, lingering in the air as if it was awaiting orders.
The man before me on his knees forced a smile to his face. "Save me. I'm your father."
I smiled. My face ached from the movement. "My father died the day he became greedy. Good-bye, Doctor. I hope you like hell."
With that, the black particles that was surrounding me lurched forward, like a dog lunging forward, wrapping around the man. Shrieks and groans of agony came from within the black cocoon before it stopped. The black cocoon suddenly broke, but nothing was there except the black dust that floated towards the ground, gently brushing against my outstretched hand. Red liquid from my own wounds covered my skin but I didn't care about the blood. It was a testament to what had just happened.
A mix of emotions flowed within me. Relief along with sorrow and slight happiness confused me, yet I still felt so empty. I was free from the torment that was placed upon me for two years , and I knew that I would never regret feeling the thick liquid slide down my arm to slowly drip to the cold cement floors. Yet there was still a memory of when we used to be family with a laughter and shining eyes.
I turned to face my personal hell. The horrors that went on in this dark room replayed in my mind. The feeling of a sharp blade cutting through tissue, nerves, and bone; mermories of him using her body parts to create the black serum and memories of my pleading screams echoed. Shivers wrecked my body, and I wanted out.
Stumbling forward, I almost slipped in my blood. Glass cut into my feet, but I didn't feel the pain as I faced the stairs. Every step forward made my heart race in anticipation yet nervousness. What does the sun and rain feel like against my skin? What does the home that I've never seen look like decorated with the money that was provided from my blood? How will I survive in a world that benefited from my pain?
Turning the doorknob, I opened the door. The door slowly creaked open, and I stepped into the room. Gleaming wood floors was the least expensive looking object in the room. Works of art, furniture, vases, and other objects that screamed luxury decorated living room.
Anger grew in me. He had traded me for expensive baubles so easily and without remorse. Biting my lip, I barely stopped myself from trashing everything in this house. Any sounds could alert the neighbors and they could call the cops. There was no way I am going to go to an orphanage, and I'll make sure of it.
I walked through the house, and I caught the sight of a bathroom. The feeling of blood, sweat, and dirt seemed to appear heavy against my skin. Moving forward, I stepped into the pristine bathroom. I turned towards the mirror, looking at myself. I barely recognized myself.
Where did the happy four year old go? Where was the happiness that seemed to exude out of her being? There wasn't a spark of any positive emotion in her eyes that were no longer blue, ones that she once prided for being the same color as her father's. But now they were no longer blue. My left eye had turned gold permanently after using my quirk to its full extent when I was five years old. My right eye was a glowing purple, although I knew that a few moments ago it was blue. A chuckle escaped me as I realized I no longer had any physical connection other than blood to that bastard.
My hair was sheared short and unevenly. This was thanks to the Doctor cutting it off with a knife to make sure he had a clear view of my neck. Blood was plastered over my too pale skin, and my full cheeks were replaced with a sharp and gaunt look. Dirty bandages were wrapped around my body. The tattered rags hung loosely on my bony body. A bleeding cut stretched from her temple down to her jaw and bruises began to form around her neck.
Sighing softly, I whispered. "Koshin." (renew)
A soft white mist wrapped around me before glowing. I closed my eyes, feeling my quirk rewind my injuries. The tingling sensation died and I opened my eyes, looking at my unblemished face. Rubbing my cheek, I turned away and started to run the shower.
My hair was wet and getting the clean t-shirt damp as I explored the house. The house itself made me sick, but I was searching for something specific which I found in Doctor's bedroom. Hidden behind a picture on the wall was a safe. I blinked at the keypad that awaited for the code before bringing up my finger. Black dust once appeared and disintegrated the front of the safe. Laying inside the safe were piles of money and notebooks. Flipping through a file, I snorted at the treasure I found. Evidence in forms of signatures and transactions looked up at me, giving me blackmail against the people who bought the "Cure".
The "Cure" was a life saving drug. Take the serum, and any injuries will be erased. You can regrow a lost limb if you took the serum in time. You could revive a person who died in the last day with this serum. When heroes got their hands on it, news was spread that this miracle drug was made from human dna, but villains didn't care and neither did politicians, heroes, businessmen, and more.
I turned towards the backpacks laying on the floor. The first backpack was packed with food, a few more clothing items, and the gun and knives. The second bag was for this. Grabbing the bag from the floor, I shoved the money and papers into my bag. As I placed the last pile of money into the bag, an object caught my attention.
Stuffed into the back corner of the safe were an object. A ring and necklace that belonged to my mom sat in a small plastic bag and beneath that was a photobook. Hesitantly grabbing the book, I opened the page and tears immediately flooded my eyes. A small photo of a small family stared at me. The three people were laughing and smiling. Their eyes sparked with joy and there wasn't an ounce of greed. The woman in the picture was a face that I had started to forget. The other pictures were of Mom and Father kissing, a picture with us throughout my first four years, and the last picture was a family picture with the Shimuras. I placed the items in my bag gently. This was more important than the blackmail material or money.
Shifting the backpack onto my back, I felt the weight settle on my shoulders. I thought about my best friend, Tenko. If my father who had never laid a hand on me before seeing the money my quirk could bring, what does that mean about Tenko's father? He hated it when Tenko and Hana talked about Heroes, and his family wouldn't stop his anger. Once my bag was secure I walked towards the back door before looking at my jail. Lifting my middle finger in salute to my past, I closed the door and faced the dark world before me.
I might not know what will happen to me, but I do know one thing. I am going to get to Tenko.
