Chapter 5 | New Nation

Chapter 5

My heart nearly exploded when Appa and the others came into view, I have been with them nearly everyday so being apart for a few felt like forever! I jumped off the wagon almost tripping on my own foot. "Zuko I'm back are you guys okay?" I frantically asked. I climbed up Appa to see Zuko and Sokka who seemed healthy, and Katara who was still passed out. "Sokka recovered, Katara woke up but has spent most of her time sleeping, and Appa has been doing okay. But did you find a healer?" Zuko asked. "Yeah, everyone meet Kinto!" I looked behind me to see Kinto nervously waving. "Nice to meet you Sokka and Firelord Zuko." She said bowing. "No need to call me Firelord, just Zuko's fine. I scooted over to Katara lifting up her head once again. "Katara, are you okay, I'm back, I'm so sorry for leaving." Katara opened her eyes and I leaned in to kiss her, her hands reached up to hold my face. The kiss was so nice It was too long since our lips had touched, I mean only two days but still. "Where are you injured?" Katara weakly turned over and pointed to her back and I lifted her shirt up to see a bruise the size of my hand. "Oh I'm so sorry Katara, Kinto come here please." She tried to climb aboard Appa but kept slipping. "Here let me help you!" I said carefully putting down Katara and went over to help Kinto. "Grab my hand." She grabbed my hand and I lifted her onto Appa's saddle. She walked over to Katara and bended some water from her pouch similar to Katara's. She carefully placed the water on Katara's wound and began the healing process. I don't know much about healing, I remember back on the fire nation ship months ago when Katara was trying to heal me after Azula struck me with lightning she needed to find out where the most energy was but that's really it. I watched Kinto as she bended the water up and down Katara's spine. Katara started groaning out of pain so I quickly scooted over to her and grabbed her hand letting her know it was going to be okay. "Sorry." Kinto said out of shame. "Hey it's okay you're doing great!" I assured her. I looked over at Zuko and Sokka to see they both had worried looks on their faces but I have faith in Kinto.

We sat there for what felt like an eternity the whole time I made sure to comfort Katara. "There we go." Kinto said. "Are you feeling better Katara?" Sokka asked. She got up and looked around, rubbed her eyes. "Yeah, I think I'm feeling better." I instantly wrapped my arms around her in a tight embrace. I was just so happy to see her feeling better. "Thank you so much." Katara said, pulling away from the hug to look at Kinto. "Of course, it's great to meet you!" For the next hour we all chatted while Kinto healed Appa, we talked about our plan to find Mai filling Kinto in on why we needed to get to the village and she seemed very excited but that night I fell asleep in the arms of my soulmate.

I woke up to the sound of birds chirping, I was finally calm and at peace. I looked down at Katara whose hand was wrapped around my chest and face was buried into my shoulder, I could hear her peacefully breathing. I noticed Sokka was snoring loudly on the other side of the saddle, Zuko was laying down next to him and Kinto was huddled in a ball in the corner. Katara started to stir next to me so I gently rubbed her palm, she looked up at me with a cheerful smile as she leaned in to give me a kiss on the cheek. "Good Morning Mr. Avatar." She said with a chuckle as she rightfully buried her head back into my shoulder. I sighed and looked up at the sky, it was pink and orange with a hint of yellow, It wasn't often that I just got to lay back and admire the scenery. I laid my head back down on Katara's head but before I could even begin to relax a ball of fire flew right over our head right into a nearby tree. I quickly shot up accidentally chucking Katara off of me. "What the!" She complained. "Oh no." She said seeing the burning tree. "Sokka, Zuko, Kinto get up!" I yelled. I got up and jumped off of Appa to get a closer look. To my surprise it was the guys from the village a few nights prior. "What do you guys want?" I announced trying to sound fierce. Katara got up and jumped down next to me. "What are these guys' problems?" She asked, preparing to attack. "Some people Kinto told me to stay away from." I whispered. "We're here for the Avatar and Firelord the King is paying a hefty price for them, dead or alive!" The man said right before shooting a fireball right at me. I quickly defended myself by blocking the shot with my staff. "Who is this king and what does she want with me and Zuko!?" I said while blocking more of their shots. "You haven't heard The Kings planning on taking over four nations; she's already started his own empire ever since Firelord Ozia lost the throne!"The other man shouted while throwing more flames towards Katara and I. We dodged the shots, I grabbed Katara's hand and led her to a tall thick oak tree. "So what's the plan?" I asked, Katara turned to me and thought for a second. "We take them out until they're weak then we question them!" I nodded my head in agreement right before peaking my head from behind the tree. "Come out and fight Avatar!" They chuckled and at that moment I jumped out from behind the tree and sent the flying with a big gust of air, Katara followed as she covered them in water and then freezing it seconds later. The men grunted in anger before melting the ice with an explosion of fire. At this point Sokka and Zuko were awake and jumped down to help us while Kinto stood back in fear. "Whats these guys deal?" Zuko exclaimed. "They came to capture us!" I shouted back quickly dodging another one of their attacks. I earthbended the rock in front of us to get some protection. "The plan is to just get them weak and tired before we question them." I said before one the man came running behind the corner and Sokka knocked him out with his boomerang. "Yeah boomerang!" Sokka exclaimed in excitement. I put down the wall and Zuko blasted the other man and Katara encased him In ice once again. "There's no reason to fight back your outnumbered!" Katara yelled at the man. Kinto walked over to the rest of us, staring directly at the guy. "Why are you here Mushi?" she said, almost yelling at him. "Wait you know this guy?" Sokka said, looking shocked. "Well he lives in my village, Aang was about to approach him but I grabbed him before he could respond." Kinto responded. I looked over at the guy to see a paper in his pocket where he wasn't frozen, I ripped it out and started reading it and Katara glanced over to read the paper too.

I looked at the paper and read it aloud. "Stand up to this unfair government, join us and let's create a safe powerful new nation! No unfair Avatar or Rulers." I read aloud then looked up at everyone's faces and they all had either shocked or confused faces. "Well that just sounds like a mess!" Sokka complained. This isn't good people are trying to start a new nation, and what if they're sending out people to assassinate or capture Zuko and I. "Aang you okay, what are you thinking about?" Katara asked, reaching out to put her hand on my shoulder. I looked up at Katara, she looked a little worried, I looked away and back at the man ignoring Katara's question. "You won't stand a chance, there are thousands upon thousands of members!" The man said as he mocked us. "You will tell us where you're meeting!" I screamed at the guy raising my voice and pointing at him. Katara tightened her grip on my shoulder so I took a deep breath, the man started laughing which just made me even more furious. " You better listen!" Zuko instructed while burning a small flame in his hand. The man's face changed into a more worried look. "Fine, but you won't stand a chance I tell you!" He said trying one more time to scare us Zuko gave him an even more intimidating stare. "I don't know I'm not in there inner circle, now can you let me go already." "If we let him go he is going to go straight to their leader and tell us we're coming so I think you're okay here. Katara said, giving the man a smirk. "Good idea." Sokka replied and we all walked over to Appa. "Wait so are you guys okay with me coming, I mean my Nana is probably already furious with me so I don't really wanna go back." Kinto asked. I looked at the rest of the gang and they all nodded their heads in agreement. "Sweet!" She exclaimed.
