Chapter 6: Decision

You, Cody and Ruby has just stepped out of the office; Leaving Kenny and Clementine inside. You all felt as if it would be best to give them a moment.

You lean against the wall beside the door; crossing your arms.

Ruby: Alright y'all, I got chores to do. Just wait out here for Clem to call you in. I'm assuming she'll want to to talk to all of y'all separately.

Cody: Sure.

She said as she pressed her back against the wall behind her, sliding down it into a sitting position.

The two of you sit there quietly for several minutes, until Cody decides to break the awkward silence.

Cody: Do you think we could end up staying here?

You: I don't know. maybe.

Cody looked back at you with curiosity, waiting for you to elaborate; but you were hesitant about doing so.

You decide to just let what's in your mind spill out, because you knew that even though Cody and you can push each other to their wits end, she still knew when to cut the shit and act serious.

You: I mean, I don't see this going well; we both know how it ends for groups.

Cody: They seem to be doing alright for themselves, maybe it will be different this time. It can't be as if every group left alive is going to end with conflict.

You: I hope to God you're right.

Suddenly, the door to the office opens, and Kenny steps out. You turn to face him while Cody stands up.

Kenny shuts the door behind him and crosses his arms.

You and Cody stand there; waiting for him to talk.

Kenny: So, we haven't really had a good chance to catch up yet but she invited all three of us to stay here. I vouched for ye both.

You: Stay?...as in permanently?

Kenny: Yeah. I've already made up my mind that I'm staying, and I'm not gonna try to force either of you to do the same, but I really hope you do choose to stay here. You two are my family, but so is she. There isn't a chance that I'm gonna leave her willingly...not again.

You and Cody look at each other; she nods and you both turn your attention back towards Kenny.

You: I'm gonna be honest here, I am still a little bit skeptical; but after everything you have told me about this girl, I believe that she can keep a group running. Especially with your help, Kenny.

His face instantly lights up; a rare sight these days.

Kenny: Thanks kid, I'm glad you made that choice.

He exhales sharply, then quietly speaks.

Kenny: Good lord, this is the best I've felt in a lone ass time. It's so good to see her again, all grown up and all.

Cody: Well We're glad you're happy, old man. You deserve to be, after everything you have been through.

Kenny: Thanks guys, that mean a lot. Really.

You: So!
You say clapping your hands together.

You: When do we get to meet her?

Kenny: Oh, right. She said that if you both decided to stay, she would like to have a word with the two of you.

You: Cool, let's head in then!
You say gesturing towards the door.

Kenny: Well, not right now. She said she wants to take some time to catch up...again. I'm starting to get a crazy sense of deja vu here.

You: Oh, sure. Take as much time as you need.

Kenny: Why don't you two go and meet our new friends while you're waiting. Clementine said that almost everyone should be out in the courtyard at the moment.

Cody: Sure. Come get us when you're ready.

He nods and turns to open the door as you and Cody leave to go join the other kids in the courtyard.

*In the courtyard*

You walk down the steps to the admin building, with Cody behind you.

All of the kids are dispersed throughout the yard; involved in their own business.

Louis hasn't moved from where you last saw him on the sofas. Except this time he is joined by violet. You decide to walk over. Cody follows you.

You: Hey.

Louis: Oh, hey.

Violet: Sup.

You: So uh...Clementine invited us to stay.

Violet: What? Really?
She says in a surprised tone.

Cody: Hey we are just as shocked as you, but Clementine and Kenny go back a lot from what we've heard. So yeah, I don't think that they're gonna be separating any time soon, so...looks like we're here for the time being.

Violet: Okay, I guess?

Louis: Well, This has been one hell of a day...
