"You'll be just fine, Agnes," the woman tells me as she hooks up another cord to my head, "Really. We'll take care of you here." She smiles as she walked over to the huge machine that's supposed to measure whatever it is supposed to measure. "We're just going to run a few quick more tests and then you can finally go to the Dome."

She walks out of the room and into the observatory. I am alone, once again. I've been alone for about a month now. Ever since the accident that killed my aunt and uncle, I haven't managed to escape loneliness. Immediately after their death I was taken up by the government. I wasn't even put in a foster home, not even an orphanage. I was just chucked between guardians--they weren't even guardians. Just supervisors, who's job was to keep me from killing myself before they could take me to the next person. But I didn't try to kill myself. I just tried to get away. . .

As the woman begins to press buttons that I assume will begin my tests, an official looking man walks in on her. He wears a suit, and he's bald, and he looks so familiar. They begin talking, but I can't hear them. The wall between them and me is soundproof. My mind becomes curious, and I can't help but to want to know what they are saying, so I begin to tap into their conversation.

But before I can hear anything important, the man walks out. A little too late, I guess. But I see in the window of the door that leads out of the observatory that the bald man has engaged into another conversation with another scientist. Immediately, I can tell he has become stressed, and maybe even upset. I tap in to their conversation instantly, not wanting to miss anything interesting, this time.

Tapping in isn't exactly super hearing. Instead, it's like an extenstion to telepathy. When a person speaks, they technically are speaking their thoughts, and since I am able to listen to someone's thoughts, I can hear what they are saying even when they are out of my hearing range. The closed doors and soundproof walls are no exceptions to my ability. Once I tap into the bald man's conversations, my curiosity was satisfied.

"Doctor, I hope you'll soon be able to realize that I am not the richest man on this earth. Cadmus still has a budget, just like any other government project," the bald man says.

"But Mr. Luthor , in order to create the ideal modified Superman clone, we need at least this amount of money," the scientist said as he pointed at a number on his clipboard.

Luthor.

The bald man grabs his nosebridge in frustration. "I don't have the money to give you to make a clone from scratch! Tell me, doctor. What's wrong with just morphing one of the many metahumans or aliens you already have in your possesion?"

"...Well, sir, it won't be fully Kryptonian. But I guess it could work," the scientist says. I can tell he's a tad bit disappointed. Mr. Luthor smiles a bit, whatever stress he had relieved.

"That will have to do for now. Once I've reached higher positions, and have evolved more in my career," Luthor says a bit arrogantly, fiddling with his tie,"I will provide Cadmus with everything it needs." He pats the scientist on the shoulder. "Please start on the project immediately."

"Will do, sir," the scientist says as Luthor walks off. Once gone, the scientist calls for another, who he orders to fetch one of the trainees who's name is 'Kai'.

I tap out. I have heard enough to fill my plate. Aliens? Metahumans? What is that? What even is that? I'm lost in my thoughts when I am interrupted by the woman who's testing me. "There's an object being placed in front of you. Can you move it, Agnes?"

"No."

"Did you try?" She asks hopefully.

"Yes."  She checks something on here dashboard, and her face twists in disappointment. "Well, you aren't lying. Okay, now someone's coming in to have a little chat with you..."  As she speaks, another woman comes in to my room, sitting down in a way that to me seems a little unorthodox in a place so high-tech and sophisticated. Was she another scientist, too?
