Perched on top of a high mountain the great castle stood. Its windows sparkling in the starry sky and the many turrets and towers which made the castle so distinctive stood out against the skyline.

The small fleet of boats approached a sizable boat house, one after the other the boats started to entered the building, letting the students get off the boat then leaving the building to let another boat in. Eventually all of the students were lined up outside the boathouse ready to go up the staircase which was attached to the side of the mountain.

Hagrid led the other students and myself up the steps to a small building, which I remembered in my mothers' description of Hogwarts was called the chamber of reception. "Right, I best leave you here then. Professor McGonagall will be here any minute now to get you all sorted into your houses." Hagrid said in a raised voice and gave me a nod and a smile before he left.

A tall, older witch with kind eyes approached us. She was wearing a black pointed hat and an emerald green velvet robe covering her black dress. "Welcome to Hogwarts, in a few short moments you will enter the great hall and meet your classmates but before you do that you must be sorted into your houses." she said in a gentle tone, "They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. You will win house points for achievements and lose them for bad behaviour, at the end of the year the house with the most points is awarded the house cup. Now, follow me!" the professor led the way into the great hall.

As the large doors opened, I felt like all eyes were on me. The first years were obviously shorter than me, which made me stand out more. My breath began getting heavier as my anxiety crept up on me. I looked around the hall to take my mind off all the students staring.

I noticed that the ceiling was covered in floating candles that didn't seem to melt. It was also bewitched to look like the night sky outside which was mesmerising. I looked down from the ceiling only to be met by the eyes of the same trio I had met at King's cross, my breath started to slow down and I gave them a smile as I walked by.

We all came to a stop in front of a small wooden stool with an old tattered brown hat placed upon it. The man I assumed to be none other than headmaster Albus Dumbledore stood and gave me a small smile, "I'd like to make a small announcement before everyone gets sorted into their houses. We have a new student who has transferred here for their fourth year, I hope that those of you in the retrospective year make her feel welcome." he said as he gave me a wink and sat down. "well, let's get you all sorted into your houses. Oldest first, y/n y/l/n!" Professor McGonagall called out, as I stood forward, I heard loud whispers coming from the tables behind me, "she's the last descent of Merlin!", "she's the minister of magic's goddaughter!".

I let out a sigh as I sat on the stool. "Ah, a descent of merlin I see-" the hat said in a shocked manner as it was placed on my head, "you may be a descent of him but there is another famous wizard you are descended from! You're a rather ambitious witch with great leader skills. You're also very clever for your age and are determined to succeed in your education. I know. SLYTHERIN!" the hat bellowed and the whole Slytherin table to my right erupted in applause.

I stood up to go sit at the table when a certain boy caught my eye, it was the one I had bumped into on platform nine and three quarters, unfortunately for me he had noticed me and waved me over making the boy to his left shuffle across to make room for me. I hesitantly walked over and took the seat next to him, "Hello again." he said with a sly smirk, "I'm Draco, Draco Malfoy, to your left is Blaise, across from us is Crabbe, Goyle and Pansy." he said moving his finger from person to person. "It's nice to meet you all." I greeted them. "A descent of Merlin, wow, it's a pleasure to meet you." Pansy said with a hint of excitement lacing her voice.
