It was one of those mornings in Evelyn's case. when she will wake up long before dawn and run until her legs felt like they couldn't run any further. Zinzi and lady were often times left alone in the camp with Calum, only to find that their master had been gone for several hours as well as the horse. She would come barreling back into camp on Chance's back, and almost immediately she would result to Making breakfast for the horse the Wolves and the owl whom she had named Ace. since it was the norm for Evelyn those days neither Zinzi nor lady seemed surprised at all when they woke to find themselves cold from the lack of warmth that Evelyn would give off when lying next to them.

On that particular morning in late autumn a cool breeze was blowing when Zinzi woke to the sound of pounding hooves approaching the camp. Chance was coated in sweat as Evelyn road him into the camp. she swung off his back before taking his reins and tying him loosely to the tree. even though Chance had only been in Evelyn's possession for about a year, he was already trained as if he had been in their family since his birth. he never wandered far and Evelyn had no need to tie him up though she did occasionally, having forgotten that the horse was practically like Zinzi and Lady; never wandering too far and less to get water but they will return immediately. He had acute sense of hearing and sight ,always ready to give Evelyn a warning should he sense danger. Zinzi and lady had grown to appreciate the horse though were not exactly best chums with him. They respected the fact that he carried the heavy load especially when it came to traveling. Every few days they would be on the road again; never staying in one place for more than three days. The most that they stayed in one place was for a week and that was when Cullum had come down with a cold and Evelyn found it best to stay in one spot until he recovered. They never drifted very close to any form of civilization, settlement or even a tribe. Should one of the wolves, Evelyn or Chance since the presence of another being or of some form of civilization, they would alert Evelyn if she hadn't noticed it already. Most of the time she knew exactly how close they were to a settlement. Lucky for Evelyn unlike Arya, she paid attention when she was having geography classes back home. This gave her the opportunity to not ever have to ask for directions and to make it easy for them to travel in the back country and through the forests. Thus it had been for a year. Calum was already old enough to crawl on his own and was even beginning to balance against things on his own two feet. His blonde hair as fair and as golden as the sun had grown in thick over the past year, the straight locks flopping over his forehead and about his little ears, framing his chubby face. The little boy was barely a foot tall... small for his age probably having inherited it from Evelyn but his growth rate was much greater that any child that Evelyn had seen. She knew that he would encounter many growth spurts which would result in him becoming much like his father in height and build.

After Evelyn ensured that Chance was close to enough grass to feed him that morning, she headed over to where Zinzi and Lady lay about two feet apart from each other.

Between them, sprawled on the cloak that Evelyn had laid on the ground laid a sleeping Calum. He was half between consciousness and deep sleep his eyes twitching as he slowly woke, his lips parted as he breathed, his cheeks pink from where his hand had been pressed against them during his sleep. Zinzi gently nudged the child with her snout before Evelyn came over and scooped the little one up, settling against a nearby tree.

Evelyn set to work gently rousing the child. Calum got more sleep than any of them, sleeping during most of the journeys either strapped to Evelyn's back or situated on Zinzi or lady. Evelyn had soon discovered that Calum loved sleeping on his stomach and as long as he was close to somebody he knew and trusted and there was a steady heart feet within hearing distance he was content to sleep anywhere. In such cases Evelyn often strapped him to Zinzi or Lady's back using extra belts and bags. Calum's favorite companion probably was Ace the owl. Having grown to the size of a full grown owl, over the course of the year since Evelyn had obtained him, Ace was the best companion that Evelyn could hope for her son.
