Severine was in the middle of watching a movie when the whole apartment went pitch black. He waited on the couch for a minute to see if the power would come back on. When it didn't he looked out the window and noticed the street lights were off too. It was around eight in the evening so they should have been on. He went out to the balcony and looked toward the country. All the lights on that side of town were off, he looked towards the Cafe and all the lights were off there as well. An uneasy feeling was starting to stir in his chest.
He opened the weather app on his phone even though he knew what he would see. There were no storms in their area and no mass power outages anywhere else. Which could only mean one thing, something had happened to Marcus. He knew the landlady didn't have any properties outside of town which meant Marcus was still in town somewhere. He stood on the balcony and tried to focus his powers on the right hand side of town first. His heart was beating rapidly causing extra white noise, he stopped trying and backed into the apartment trying to calm himself down.
He sat on the couch and counted to ten over and over again until he was slightly calmer then he went back out to the balcony. Taking a deep breath he focused himself and pushed his power back to the right hand side of town, he didn't pick up anything unusual so he turned towards the left hand side. He focused again, at first he didn't hear anything, then he heard the faintest crackle of electricity. He opened his eyes looking hard while focusing his power on the sound. He couldn't see anything, frustrated he stepped back into the apartment and threw on his converse. He rushed down the steps faster than he should have in the dark and burst through the door. He started running towards the sound.
The closer he got to the cafe the stronger the sound became. He ran in the direction he thought it was coming from and realized it was getting fainter. Cursing to himself, he turned around and ran in the opposite direction, the sound becoming stronger again. A flash in the corner of his vision made him stop in his tracks and turn, there was a small house just off the road and the lights were flashing off and on. He didn't need his power anymore to know that's where Marcus was. He raced up the sidewalk and threw open the screen door breaking the single hinge that was holding it in place. He opened the inside door and rushed in without a second thought. He used his power again and heard the crackling and popping noises coming loudest from a room in the back. He followed the sound and ended up in the kitchen.
After so much darkness from the town then the flashing lights in the house it took his eyes a moment to adjust, when they did he took a step back in surprise. Marcus was there on the floor and had his hands over his ears screaming no over and over again. Issac was there as well standing across the room laughing maniacally. He looked over and noticed Severine in the doorway.
"Well looky looky, I didn't even have to go find him. He came to me on his own," Issac sneered.
"What did you do to him?" he demanded.
At the sound of his voice Marcus stopped screaming and looked up, and his heart stopped, he had the same lost look in his eyes that he had had the night he found out Caspian had been killed. He knew now what Marcus had meant when he had told him he would know if he wasn't okay okay. He darted across the kitchen and placed himself between Marcus and Issac, backing up until he could feel Marcus against the back of his legs. He knew it wasn't the smartest idea because it would be easy to trip over him but he felt like if he didn't touch him, Marcus would fall apart.
"I didn't do anything to him...yet," Issac responded, taking a step forward.
"Do not come any closer," he hissed.
To his surprise Issac stopped and stayed where he was. Keeping his eyes on Issac he knelt down feeling behind him for Marcus's arm, once he made contact with it, he slid his hand down his arm until he found his hand and locked their fingers together.
"M," he started soothingly, "it's time to get up. Come on. We're going home."
It felt like an eternity before Marcus started to move. Not looking at him and keeping his eyes on Issac was the hardest thing he had done in awhile.
"We are going home," he repeated in the sternest voice he could manage.
Issac laughed, "I'm not going to stop you. This is only the beginning after all."
Even though Marcus was on his feet now he kept himself between Issac and him. He wasn't sure what had happened just yet but he knew it wasn't good. He slowly backed out of the kitchen into the living room, then out the front door. Once they were on the steps he finally turned around and practically dragged Marcus behind him as he raced to the car and pushed him roughly into the passenger seat. He got in the driver side and started the car then drove back to the apartment. The town was still pitch black giving it an eerie feeling. They made it back to the apartment and into the building without being followed.
