You sat in the chair, shrouded in shadow.

Confused.

You didn't know what was happening.

You didn't know why it was happening.

To you. Of all people the universe could choose to mess with, it chose you.

You clenched your fists in frustration.

Why?

You often dreamed of traveling to far off worlds to do whatever you wanted. To get away with anything you desired. To live a carefree life. But of course, there's always a price.

For you, it might as well be your sanity. You're already going crazy listening to all these voices appear at once. Listening to her voice. Being trapped in an unfamiliar place because a door, a magical door, brought you to her. Having to find a way to get back home with a classmate you barely know saying he's not even from your world.

For all you know, this could all be a dream. You could be hallucinating. Maybe you got lost in your daydreams again. Maybe you tripped on a tree root and hit your head when you ran into the woods.

None of this is real.

It couldn't possibly be real.

Right?

——

Karl noticed your silence a few minutes earlier, though considering the type of situation you were in, he assumed you wouldn't be comfortable speaking so freely just yet.

It wasn't until he started asking you questions about yourself, in an attempt to get to know you better before letting you stay at his house, and you not answering he noticed that something was wrong.

Even if you were a bit awkward, it wasn't like you to not respond to him or make subtle movements or hums to let him know that you were listening. But you haven't moved an inch since he started talking nor have you hummed or breathed a small response.

His eyes shifted to your figure, immediately scanning your face. Your eyes were foggy and unfocused, looking just past him, towards the wall.

"(Y/n)?" He waved his hand in front of you.

No response.

Frozen, sat still, and glazed eyes.

He lightly shakes your shoulders.

"(Y/n)?" He says your name slowly. "(Y/n)? Are you okay?"

He watches as your eyes subtly glow an unnatural shade of emerald green before disappearing, only leaving small tones of green in your (e/c) eyes.

You blink and immediately a headache forms. You hiss in slight pain and your hand cradles the side of your head.

Karl purses his lips and places a hand on your shoulder. "(Y/n) are you okay? Do you need anything?"

"A glass of water would be nice. Please." He nods and walks over to the chests, hidden in the sides of the room, pulling out what seems to be a glass bottle.

He walks back over and places it next to you. "What happened? You spaced out for a bit.." He pouted slightly, worried for you.

Thanking him, you take a few gulps of water before placing it back down on the table. You shrug. "I uh- I don't know. To be completely honest, I can barely remember what you were talking about."

He paused for a moment then smiled. "Maybe you need some rest. It's getting late and you probably need time to process—well everything."

You nodded, clutching the water bottle. "Yeah. Maybe."
