You stretched as you stood up from your desk. Karl was absent from class due to being stuck in his world without the key.
Yawning, as you walked back to your dorm. The crunchy Autumn leaves, crackled under each step as the damp cement glistened ever so slightly under the afternoon sun.
You thought about your dream that morning. 'You', or at least you think it was you, were in a small village. Cornelius was the small boy you had been chasing because he had stolen a few tomatoes from your family's garden.
Bringing a hand up to your lips, you chuckled at his silly idea of claiming the juicy, red fruits. Writing your name on them. It was funny.
Even if everything in the dream was new to you, it somehow felt familiar. The familiar tint of brown-green in his mischievous eyes and the freckles that were sprinkled across his cheeks. The familiar warmth of the small and close relationships inside the small village. The familiar feeling of childish shenanigans.
You experienced these things within your own childhood. You lived in a neighborhood though, you weren't close to any of your neighbors, as you only see them if they left their house at the same time you were arriving to your own. You did grow close to your school friends though. You experinced the same child-like wonder and played out the same childish shenanigans.
Though, the familiarity from your dream was different. The feeling filled you with absolute joy yet, it somehow also filled you with extreme sorrow and betrayal. It wasn't clear where these negative feelings came from.
As much as you thought about the dream, it only felt as though it were a fantasy. A happy world filled with fun and joy.
A world of no consequences.
Daydreaming.
It brought you joy.
What if you could just escape?
Escape from all your worries. Escape from all your responsibilities. Escape from the normal occurrences and problems of everyday life.
What if you could live out your wild fantasies?
You stuffed your hand into your uniform blazer and pulled out the black key.
Sighing, you study the engraved name on it.
'(Y/n) (L/n)'
It was your name without a doubt. How could it not be?
The whispers told you it was.
But then what about Karl? He found it in his world. A world you aren't from.
It's impossible that it could be yours.
You stepped into your room, closing the door behind you. You sighed, staring at the key before throwing it onto your bed.
You changed into some casual clothing and packed a small pack with a few essentials along with Karl's hoodie.
You needed to talk to him to at least get some type of answer.
Or maybe you'll get lucky and that lady will come and talk to you.
A sigh escaped your lips for the nth time that day as you stepped out of your room. You closed the door behind you and stared at the key in your hands and back at the lock on the door.
You thought about how you went through the door of your room instead of the tree the day before.
'Maybe..' You squinted down at the key and looked into the hall on your left and right, making sure no one was around.
