A young girl slept under a tree that grew within her family's small garden. The garden was filled with fruits, vegetables, and even herbs such as several types of tomatoes, basil, thyme, etc.
The garden resides in a small plot of land on the side of a small hill, gated so intruders can think twice about thinking of stealing from her garden. Her mother watered the plants as she rested.
Rustle.
Rustle.
The rustling of plants bothered the young girl as she sit up from her light slumber, rubbing her tired eyes. In the corner of her eyes, she saw the small figure of a young boy her age putting his hand through the fence and taking a few tomatoes off the vines.
Her (e/c) eyes widened at the intrusion and she gasped, immediately standing under the shade of the tree.
"Hey!" She shouted and pointed towards the boy, her cheeks puffed and red with anger. "What do you think you're doing!?"
He froze, his green eyes flicked up to meet her (e/c) orbs. The freckles on his face danced as his smile widened. Holding several tomatoes in his arms, he got up and ran, dropping a few along the way.
Her eye twitched as she watched him run away, running after him not so long after.
"Hey! Those aren't yours! Get back here!" She ran as fast as her tiny legs could take her.
He looked behind him, a gap-toothed smile accompanying the mischievous glint in his subtly green-brown eyes. He stopped and faced her. "Well- I don't see your name written on them."
She stopped a few feet in front of him, slightly panting. "That's dumb. Who puts their name on their tomatoes?"
He thought for a moment, hugging the large amount of tomatoes close to his form. "Someone who really wanted their tomatoes." He shrugged.
The young girl huffed. "That doesn't even make any sense!"
The freckled boy shrugged. "It makes complete sense. If you weren't so dumb then maybe you'd understand."
She watched him as an older woman came up behind him, she crossed her arms and smirked.
"Cornelius.. Where did you get these?" He froze, eyes widening at the familiar voice.
"Mom- I found these-"He was cut off as the young girl walked closer to them.
The young girl's shoes came into her sight and she looked up from the tomatoes in her son's arms. "These tomatoes are mine, miss." A sickly sweet smile was present on young girl's face.
She nodded as she looked at her son, a crease in her brow as her eye twitched. A smile appeared on her face as she pinched her son's cheek.
"Ow- Ow. Ow. Ow. O-" He put all the tomatoes in one arm, dropping a few in the process, and used the other to swat his mother's hand away.
"Cornelius. Give the young lady her tomatoes back. You're five years old for Christ's sake. Be more mature than this." She let go of her son's cheek as she turned to face the young girl with a sweet smile.
The (h/c)-nette chuckled as she watched 'Cornelius' rub his sore cheek. He held out his arms as she did the same, placing the large array of tomatoes into her hands. "..I'm sorry."
She smiled as she tucked her arms closer to herself. "Hmm.. I forgive you."
His mother stood up and dusted the imaginary dust from her dress. "Alright Miss.. I'm sorry, what's your name again?"
