"Y/N? Y/N! Snap out of it!"

You shook your head as your sight finally focused on your co-worker, Aiko, who had her hands on her hips, wearing a suspicious look on her face. You gave her an apologetic smile before mindlessly sweeping the floors again. "Sorry," you told her.

Aiko rolled her eyes. "Are you daydreaming again? What is it this time," she began wiping the tables and chairs. "You and your 'dream boy' going on a picnic date? Dancing underneath the stars?" Aiko dramatically placed the back of her hand on her forehead, strutting a pose. "How romantic!"

You glared at her, gathering the dust from every nook and cranny. You let out a hopeless sigh. "I can't help it, okay? I just... want to know what it feels to love and be loved."

Your co-worker couldn't help but smile pitifully in your direction. "Oh, Y/N. It'll come someday. Just wait a little longer. Then again, there's always dating apps-"

"Ew, no." You laughed at her. Aiko had been suggesting to find your date through the app but you were strongly against it. You don't really trust meeting people online, chatting with them until you both decided to see each other in real life and find out that they weren't exactly what they were telling you.

Minutes passed until the diner was looking much more presentable. The cook had already prepared the morning meals and your boss, Elaine, had already gone to the door and flipped over the sign that says 'OPEN'.

You and Aiko are working at a diner somewhere in America as, you guessed it, waitresses. This particular establishment is best known for its desserts and other pastries, breakfast is the bonus. It was a fairly large diner compared to the others. Plenty of people would come by and eat, lounge, or just spend their money on the jukebox by the corner of the diner.

Aiko worked months before you, but when you arrived, you already warmed up to her and became the best of friends. 6 months later, the two of you still walk home together since coincidentally, you lived on the same block as her. Though Aiko loved you to bits, there's always the time of day where you'd constantly mope about not having a boyfriend which she's getting quite annoyed with the behavior. Whenever a couple enters the diner, you'd instantly flip moods and Aiko had to deal with that side of you.

She watched as you clipped the torn piece of paper onto the thread at the window of the kitchen. You sighed as the both of you patiently waited for the orders to be sent out. The diner is slowly being occupied by three to four tables today so it wasn't that busy.

Soon, the plates were out and you had to deliver them to your table, which was unfortunately taken by a couple, who were obviously on a morning date. You smiled politely as you arranged their plates and wished them a good meal but as you turned around, you glared at a wall on the way back to the counter. You served another order before meeting with Aiko again who was giving you a casual smirk as she wiped a coffee mug that was used earlier.

You smiled sarcastically as you huffed. "Oh, to be in love."

Aiko playfully let out a short laugh, dutifully cleaning a tray of cups and utensils and not even looking at you. "You are yearning for love yet you don't even make an effort of finding one yourself."
