Mythology: a belief that gave courage

Written by- thelatentwriter

God and Goddess have always been a very important part in the lives of our Indian soldiers. A faith gave courage during the life-threatening time and help in the victory. Our Indian army has their fair share of such tales, but one that is more miraculous than others is the of the local deity of tanot aka Awad mata.

The tale of Tanot mata-

Tanot Mata's temple is 150 Km away from the Jaisalmer in the westernmost part of Rajasthan and near Indo-Pak border. It is believed that during Indo Pak war at Longewala border during both 1965 and 1971 around 3000 bombs were dropped near the temple but none exploded. Some legends even mention that Mata herself came in the dream of a few soldiers and promised protection. This gave the soldiers a new ray of hope and more power to continue the war.

Tano Mata is said to be the reincarnation of the incarnation of divine goddess Hinglaj Mata, and she later takes the form of Karni Mata. The temple itself was established in the eighth century and since then have always been very important to the locals and Indian Army both.

After the 1965 war BSF took charge of the temple and is till date maintained by BSF. After the continuous bombarding during 1971 war and more than a thousand unexploded bomb, Indian Army constructed on the side along with a big museum.

It is the famous temple we even came across in the movie Border. Showing how the disheartened soldiers were saved by Tanot Mata, who didn't let them lose hope of winning the war even against an army so strong in size and weaponry.. At the present day, the temple is a great tourist attraction with the museum containing all those unexploded bombs.

How much true the story is, no one knows. Whether it was really Mata Tanot protecting our borders or just bombs poorly set up? For us, I'd say it is yet another mythology we are lucky to have.

At this note. MATA TANOT IS JAI! May our brave men never come across another war.
