(very long chapter ahead)
It's a very busy day at the hospital. I love being a doctor but sometimes it gets so overwhelming, especially announcing someone's death to their loved ones like right now,
"Mom, go back to the car. It's nothing. Debby is fine", the boy keeps telling his mother and Debby's I assume.
Debby was brought after a fatal road accident but unfortunately she passed on. Lizzy, my supervisor and I were told to break the news to her family.
I can't imagine how it feels to lose one's child. It's probably the most painful thing a mother can go through.
"Deborah is fine, right? My baby is fine, right?" the mother says through tears as her son hugs her tight. "No, No. Debby is fine"
The tears increase to loud sobs then wailing.
I hate moments like this, I really do.
One thing they tell us at medical school is to not get attached to any patients because bad things can happen. That's how life works. Life is cruel.
"That was really sad, wasn't it?" Liz says as we walk away from the mourning mother and her son.
"Yeah, poor woman"
Poor everyone who's lost someone special to them. Life's so fucked up.
Sigh.
"Collins"
I turn to face the individual that called my name. It's Brad, another doctor here and sometimes he's my supervisor because the hospital thought I am so cool I could learn a thing or two from two good doctors. Brad is a good doctor but his character is shit, literally. He walks towards us.
"Yeah", I reply.
"I need you in ward 04 in ten minutes"
I'm supposed to be with Lizzy all day today but who am I to argue.
"OK, got it"
I expect him to leave first but he stays as he continues to stare at me. He looks me up to down with a lustful glint in his eyes and I've never wanted to punch someone in the face as much as I do now.
Who does this bitch think he is?
"Ok, I'm just going to go", Liz says hurriedly walking away.
"I'll go with you", I turn to go but feel a hand wrap around my wrist.
Calm down, Victoria. Remember this is your workplace. You could get fired for bad behavior or go to jail for murder.
I turn to face him and 'smile' at him, "what, Brad?"
"I just wanted to talk to you"
"Can we do this after? Like you said, I have a ward to get to but I really need to get to my locker before I do"
I turn to go again but he moves and stands in my front.
I take a deep breathe fighting the urge to put him in his place and I seriously will if he keeps this up.
Brad isn't a bad person per say. If you ignore the fact that he's gone through the panties of nearly every young female doctor at this hospital or that he looks at a woman as if he wants to eat her raw which is the most disrespectful thing especially a woman who is clearly not interested like me, he's a pretty decent guy.
Who am I kidding?
He's nasty and needs someone to tell him that just because he's somewhat good looking doesn't mean he can look at a woman the way he wants. It's so rude.
